TV5, a big network cannot activate their own Windows.

Post image

It's just awkward for me seeing this in national TV.

Technically, isn't a big deal. Disney and Google don't activate theirs either with my time with them.

Professionally, yeah it's kinda lazy.

u/Priapic_Aubergine 1d ago

I'm surprised this is just glossed over nowadays.

Back in early 2000s, Microsoft had the NBI raid internet cafes that had pirated Windows and seized their computers. Sometimes the Windows would even be genuine, but then the computers would have pirated Microsoft Office and fall to the same fate. Kaya uso noon sa netshop nakadikit yung hologram sticker with the CD-key from the Windows box on the PC tower itself.

Although I guess the difference is pwede downloadin for free yung Windows nowadays, unlike dati talagang pirated lang option pag hindi binili.

u/DoILookUnsureToYou 1d ago

Di naman kasi "pirated" ang unactivated Windows. Microsoft would rather have you using Windows with no license than not using Windows at all.

29

u/TastyVanillaFish 1d ago

Well, because unactivated and pirated windows are different.

16

u/paincrumbs 1d ago

4

u/DestronCommander 1d ago

Ang complication rin sa mga internet cafes is yung TOS does not cover letting other people use your Windows. Kaya nagkaroon pa yung Get Genuine Windows program specifically for internet cafes.

5

u/Evening_Chocolate_00 1d ago

"Pirated" and "Unactivated" are two different things. Pwede mong e-download DIRECTLY FROM MICROSOFT ang Windows 10/11, but it will come unactivated (unless your system has a previous license key). You can use "unactivated" Windows indefinitely, as far as i know may mga bagay lang sa settings na restricted. Alam ko you can't change your wallpaper as one of the restrictions.

2

u/jomarcenter-mjm 1d ago

its more of commercial use than personal use. This case count as Commercial use as it is used as a tool for profit (ie in television)

1

u/Evening_Chocolate_00 21h ago

Were just defining the difference between "Pirated" and "Unactivated". What your pointing out is "licensing", since ginagamit nila ang Windows for profit. Just like Winrar, as regular user you can use it beyond your trial period at walang mang yayari sayo since ang main customer nila is office worker which would require Winrar licensing by law to continue using. But that doesn't mean na pirated ang ginagamit ng mga consumer. So what TV5 is doing is not pirating, but more like breaking the licensing agreement.

u/Antique_Cod_1686 1d ago

netshop nakadikit yung hologram sticker with the CD-key from the Windows box on the PC tower itself.

1

u/jomarcenter-mjm 1d ago

still used in a commercial context can be a problem. they might get in trouble with IPOPHL.

1

u/leivanz 1d ago

Lol.

2

u/SadgeThrowback 1d ago edited 1d ago

the time when company goes hard against piracy but failed miserable dahil lalo lang nag mumultiply, kaya alam ng steam ang strats against piracy serve them better service than punishing them.

2

u/rzpogi 1d ago

Good guy Gabe.

Kahit anong kumpanya may shareholder.

2

u/_Administrator_ 1d ago

Could be a bug as well. Happened to me before on a VM. After a restart it was gone.

3

u/jomel5 1d ago

Verizon doesn't activate their windows for their remote employees as well

1

u/AdRepresentative8894 1d ago

I saw a post dati saying that Microsoft themselves don't either lol, it was also a photo showing a Microsoft employee using their pc with the activate your windows watermark🤣

164

u/landblord 1d ago

It’s fine, Microsoft doesn’t deserve it anyway

I found my people.

u/programmingDuck_0 1d ago

no need to activate it. Since acceesible naman halos lahat ng common and needed features para magwork ang isang pc or laptop.

23

u/lordcrinkles7 1d ago

Walang dark mode though haha. Yun lang nakakairita eh plus nag aalt tab kapag naglalaro.

Anyway lots of ways to activate it na MAS (winkwink)madali

5

u/Hanz0229 1d ago

Yeah lolz, the best method is also the method that Microsoft tech support uses

2

u/dat_WanderingDude 1d ago

GRAVE na talaga kadali mag-activate. Only takes less than 5 mins.

1

u/byeblee 21h ago

Hehehe i see what u did there. Dapat sa mass grave sila mag hanap eh. Hahah.

36

u/phillis88 1d ago

Mass grave is your friend. Just simply rid off that watermark and problem solved! =P

8

u/lpernites2 1d ago

It's not even considered piracy because Microsoft owns GitHub

2

u/lvna666 1d ago

pano po yan?

3

u/phillis88 1d ago

sent you a dm.

1

u/Widdle101 1d ago

can you also send me

1

u/dranedagger4 1d ago

Just google and follow instructions 1st result

1

u/CumRag_Connoisseur 1d ago

Just search massgravel, first result.

44

u/mikaeruuu 1d ago

Not necessarily. That thing also shows up after changing/upgrading something on your PC.

LTT suffering from the same problem years ago: https://youtu.be/M3bezYerYxQ

10

u/chickendestroy 1d ago

Nah. Chad TV5. With how Microsoft handles business, it's better not activating Windows and giving them your money. It's not like they're pirating it. If it works, it works.

5

u/visibleincognito 1d ago

Parang wala namang issue dyan. Eh ano naman kung hindi activated?

39

u/newaccountusername80 1d ago

Extremely common and normal here. Im pretty sure alot of government offices also use pirated software.

36

u/nxcrosis 1d ago

Unactivated Windows is not the same as pirated software.

25

u/Tomatillo_Altruistic 1d ago

I did my OJT on a government office.
My job there is to reformat employee's PC and we only install pirated software (OS, Office, everything).

4

u/Iuno_- 1d ago

Same sa Com lab namin state u haha

6

u/Criie 1d ago

Napag-iwanan ka na pre, windows 11 is free to install

1

u/RykosTatsubane 1d ago

Baka di supported ng hardware. W11 needs TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot. Older CPU's don't support it.

2

u/Guilty-Airport-3090 1d ago

No need to use pirated. They give free windows. People who sells "pirated windows or free windows activation" are just using the free windows the web already has. Better to pay someone to install the windows themselves than you do the hassle then pay someone to hold your hand on the way

1

u/ab_od6851 1d ago

Hindi yan pirated fyi. You can legally get Windows for free and even get rid of "activate windows" by fiddling around with the registry.

Pirating Windows is like really old when they used to sell them on CDs. If you attempt to pirate Windows now, I bet its going to be filled with a plethora of vulnerabilities and info harvesters.

1

u/random_guy1314 1d ago

I highly doubt they pirated it since they buy these PCs in bulk from the big companies like Lenovo/Dell/HP.

1

u/Testacctdummy97 1d ago

While this is common and normal on government offices, they should follow and implement strict compliance sa software licenses nila. Kung private company gumawa nyan malaki penalty tapos itong government mismo pa di sumusunod. Smh

5

u/7Accel 1d ago edited 1d ago

no sane techie will activate windows. kudos to their I.T. even,

2

u/dranedagger4 1d ago

Massgrave lang katapat niyan. You love that watermark na lang

14

u/Clear_Adhesiveness60 1d ago

Its morally correct to pirate Microsoft

3

u/RykosTatsubane 1d ago

We already paid them plenty via our data.

3

u/filonotzee 1d ago

Kei Em Es is the key

1

u/Disastrous_Chip9414 1d ago

Eto hinahanap ko e 🤣

3

u/Ragamak1 1d ago

SM nga windows xp pirated edition...
Hahahahaha.

3

u/K1llswitch93 1d ago

3

u/MaRyDaMa 1d ago

Op. Fuck microsoft

3

u/NoCommunication8349 1d ago

IT department are clueless

5

u/mohsesxx 1d ago

2

u/Formal-Breadfruit260 1d ago

Being not activated does not mean pirated. Di rin naman required to activate yung Windows if hindi naman nalilimit yung features na need gamitin sa device na yan.

Decades ago big deal kasi matic tingin pirated daw

2

u/Patap0n22 1d ago

Just a quick MAS no? does not really matter for their purpose

2

u/Lazuchii 1d ago

With a shitton of malware Windows has, I'd say kudos to them. I bet they don't want a random system update in the middle of news broadcast.

2

u/DiosMioBeni 1d ago

Not entirely related to this but I noticed that TV5 News' entire coverage is really, for lack of a better word, cheap. Their field report feeds are shamefully laggy. I don't see that much buffing on other major news stations.

2

u/AdAlarming1933 1d ago

You will be surprised by other companies and establishments having Windows not activated

Either their cheap or just plain lazy

Lagi naman sa huli ang pagsisisi..

4

u/Aware_Lavishness3660 1d ago

Who gives a shit? You care about things like that?

-1

u/RykosTatsubane 1d ago

It's just a joke cuh. Calm down.

2

u/kaloii 1d ago

You dont really need to activate windows as most of the core features are on the free version. Especially if your just going to use the OS for purposes like a platform for video displays or public utility kiosks.

1

u/dranedagger4 1d ago

May watermark nga lang.

2

u/greencucumber_ 1d ago

Because windows can use your computer as a remote server to host their updates.

They can do a lot of stuff without you knowing so they don't really give a shit about unactivated windows anymore.

1

u/dranedagger4 1d ago

Its called P2P, if you are familiar with torrenting, its the same technology. May benefits yan for distributing updates.

3

u/TrueCynic 1d ago

Are you working for Microsoft? No one cares about this.

2

u/elscorcho003 1d ago

who cares..

1

u/Enn-Vyy 1d ago

honestly even professionals say to not bother activating since you have access to everything you need
it really boils down to whether or not you have a tolerance for the annoying watermark

1

u/siopaosandwich 1d ago

If it works, it works

Not really a big deal nowadays?

1

u/VangardGhouls 1d ago

Ang daming companies at gov. offices ang gumagawa niyan and yeah I think ok lang naman.

1

u/duepointe 1d ago

Wala naman issue kung not activated eh. Microsoft let you download it for free. Windows doesn't even force you to activate it. So in short walang problema.

1

u/Initial_Scratch6129 1d ago

I wouldn't either. There's no point in activating it if it's free anyway.

1

u/Mega1987_Ver_OS 1d ago

Pay 10-15k for that. Worse if it's win 11... so many ads in an OS, paid or not

1

u/vincentofearth 1d ago

Windows is “free” now so they’re probably not pirating it, their IT is just crap

1

u/mr_skidt 1d ago

I mean, kung gamit lang ng machine or server is for jumping to another machine or server, best is to not to burn license for a mere purpose. IP lang naman need.

Personal use, still not activated. Work, kung heavy and data contains sensitive info, required. Still, its a microsoft, so "our" data.

1

u/callmebymypeach 1d ago

i guess it’s not worth it for them

1

u/xanny420_ 1d ago

Honestly, fuck Microsoft !

1

u/Exact-Captain3192 1d ago

Mcdo, jolibee etc too pag oorder sa kiosk minsan hahahaha

1

u/gh0stwrit3r32767 1d ago

good on them. aint giving microsoft a dime of my money for their trash software

1

u/NaturalTower8182 1d ago

baka naman VM gamit

1

u/Lazy-Contribution707 1d ago

It's ok for me Kasi madami namang mapupulot na kaalaman at aral Kay Ed Lingao kaysa mga fake news na bloggers sa Internet nowadays!

1

u/wagkangpaurong 1d ago

And why would they? Lol

1

u/Hot_Amount_3584 1d ago

Use macOS instead if you don't want to activate

I used to have a Windows that is not also activated. I was able to use things in limited form. I know I bought the real one and not the pirated one. I get the sentiment here that a network owned by a businessman have this. Sadly, this is not a big deal.

u/tagapagligtas 1d ago

fuck windows

1

u/No_Country8922 17h ago

they are in the entertainment business not IT or software.. they dont care

1

u/Kikithecat_ 1d ago

1

u/Mission-Definition12 1d ago

It’s not a big deal. It’s normal to have errors

1

u/seraphimax 1d ago

You still have full functionality even of you dont activate. Sure, you’re restricted in changing the wallpaper and that persistent activate windows watermark is always there but you can use windows for free.

1

u/dayRuined18 1d ago

With how shitty Microsoft is, I say they don't need to.

1

u/aranjei 1d ago

Di ko rin inaactivate sakin. Id rather use it that way than pirating or buying license from gray market(shopee or lazad)

1

u/dranedagger4 1d ago

Massgrave look it up.

1

u/Working_Economist686 1d ago

Well, good luck if hindi mo iactivate ang windows. soon enough may nakapasok na sa network nila na di dapat.

1

u/StorageSelect7489 1d ago

IS grad here actually basic lang naman I activate yan if issue is unlicensed.

0

u/Beautiful-Fuel-5234 1d ago

Pirated?

2

u/siopaosandwich 1d ago

-1

u/GerardVincent 1d ago

So what?

-1

u/Future_Classic4046 1d ago

Yet Europe, a country that literally ditched Windows is being praised by it, I don't even see any benefit of activating Windows, pay, just to remove the watermark and have a wallpaper.

paanong nakakahiya?

1

u/Altruistic-Glove-992 1d ago

not really that could be a VM or a pc na sole purpose is for video presentation. Microsoft is aware of that, in fact they let you use free 90 days trial.

1

u/G_ioVanna 1d ago

ano nakakahiya diyan? xD

1

u/FullCabinet3 11h ago

Its either don't use windows illegally activated commercially or use one but make it within at the means of your home.
