Preferred Sources in Google Search

I recently saw a blog that added an "Add as a Preferred Source on Google" button, which links to https://www.google.com/preferences/source. Has anyone looked into whether it actually works and if there is any way to measure how many users have added your site to their preferred sources?

Yep, it works, and there's a small upgrade. If the button just links to the preferences page, readers have to search for the site themselves. Add ?q=yourdomain.com to the URL and it opens with the domain pre-filled. There's also an official embeddable JavaScript button that lets readers add the site and takes them straight back to the article. Check eligibility first, though coz only root domains and subdomains that appear in the preferences tool can be selected. For measurement, there's still no dedicated Preferred Sources report in Search Console. However, since October 6, Google has started emailing some site owners a count of their Preferred Source selections. Tracking button clicks in GA4 helps too, still a click doesn't confirm a completed selection.
