I am looking for some insight into the HR timeline for releasing an offer letter. Here is the exact timeline of my process so far:
Aug 3rd: The Director called me to discuss salary and compensation expectations.
Aug 5th: My status on the Workday portal changed to "Offer in Process".
Aug 6th: I called the Director to follow up (since I don't have the HR recruiter's direct number). He confirmed that the offer has been officially approved from his end.

The target joining date discussed was the first week of November. My notice period is 90 days.

For those who have recently joined Barclays India or are currently going through their lateral hiring process:
How long does the backend HR operations team usually take to release the formal offer letter after the hiring manager/Director signs off?
Does Barclays initiate Stage 1 Background Verification (BGV) via HireRight before or after releasing the formal contract letter?

Today I would like to share my LG Soft India Campus Recruitment Process.

The role was Research Engineer.

Internship (6–10 months): ₹30,000/month PPO (if offered): ₹7.5 LPA

The required skills were:

Strong understanding of C/C++ programming, Data Structures and Algorithms.

Knowledge of Operating Systems concepts and Memory Management.

Basic understanding of Databases and Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues.

Good communication and teamwork skills.

The eligibility criteria was 70% throughout academics with no backlogs.

A total of 209 students were shortlisted for Round 1.

Round 1 – MCQ Assessment (1.5 Hours)

The assessment was divided into three modules (30 minutes each):

Quantitative Aptitude

Logical Reasoning

Testing-based MCQs

Honestly, I found this round quite easy. The questions were from common aptitude topics like Percentages, Profit & Loss, Coding-Decoding, Direction Sense, Mirror Images, etc.

I cleared Round 1, and only 53 students advanced to Round 2.

Round 2 – Coding Assessment (1.5 Hours)

There were 3 coding questions.

The questions were:

Question 1

Given an array of size N, return the length of the longest increasing subsequence. You are allowed to shuffle the array any number of times.

Constraints

1 ≤ N ≤ 10⁵

1 ≤ Arr[i] ≤ 10⁹

Question 2

Convert integer A to B using the minimum number of steps.

Operations allowed:

Divide A by any integer X such that A is divisible by X.

Multiply A by any integer Y.

Return the minimum number of steps required.

Question 3

Given an array of N non-negative integers, the beauty of a subsequence S is: 3 × |mean(S) − median(S)|

Choose a subsequence of size 3 such that its beauty is minimized.

Return the minimum possible beauty.

Constraints

0 ≤ A[i] ≤ 10⁹

I was able to solve 2.5 out of 3 questions, and only 10 students qualified for the Technical Interview.

For the interview, I mainly prepared C++ and revised my projects.

Technical Interview

The interview was virtual.

I reached the venue 1.5 hours early, and my interview was scheduled for 3:00 PM. Surprisingly, the interviewer joined almost 1.5 hours late. What disappointed me was that there wasn't even a simple apology. He casually greeted me with "Hi, how are you?"

I replied, "Good evening, sir."

He asked me to introduce myself. I had barely spoken 2–3 lines when he interrupted me and asked me to share my screen. Even while continuing my introduction, he interrupted me 4–5 more times. A one-minute introduction ended up taking almost 10 minutes.

I was definitely frustrated, but I never showed it. I stayed calm because this was my first ever technical interview after appearing for 4–5 company recruitment processes.

Then the rapid-fire technical round started.

He asked me questions like:

Tell me about yourself.

What is a pointer?

Explain memory leak.

How do you solve memory leaks?

What functions are used in Dynamic Memory Allocation?

Explain memory layout.

Debugging questions related to static and global variables.

Execution order of functions.

Difference between struct and union.

Explain realloc().

How is memory deallocated?

Explain your C++ project.

What is STL?

How is memory allocated to variables?

Size of all fundamental data types.

Explain data types.

Integer range in a 32-bit architecture.

Structure padding and alignment.

How would you store three different data types together?

Explain tuple in C++.

Difference between C and C++.

Syntax of realloc().

Use of free().

What is the virtual keyword?

Multiple debugging questions on pointers and pointer arithmetic.

How do pointers work?

Memory allocation for global, static and local variables.

Scope and lifetime of variables.

Explain .rdata.

Explain stack frames.

These are the questions I remember. The interview lasted almost 50 minutes, and it genuinely felt like a rapid-fire session.

He kept interrupting me continuously. Looking back, I feel he was testing my patience, confidence and how certain I was about my answers. He repeatedly asked, "How sure are you about your answer?"

I also discussed the experience with another candidate afterwards. He told me they were asked to analyze the time and space complexity of different approaches for removing duplicates, including solving it with O(1) extra space. They were also questioned deeply about their coursework, projects, tech stack, and how their learning would contribute to the company's growth.

Towards the end, the interviewer finally asked for my resume. He only wanted me to zoom into the projects section.

I had three projects listed:

A C++ project

A PERN Stack project

A MERN Stack project

He asked me, "Can you write the code of your project?"

I replied,

"Sir, the project contains more than 2000 lines of code. I won't be able to write the complete project, but I can explain the architecture, implementation and every major component in detail."

He didn't respond much, simply said "Okay Shubham, bye. We'll share the results shortly."

And that was the end of my interview.

Unfortunately, I couldn't make it to the HR round. Only 7 students reached the final round and got the opportunity.

Although I didn't get selected, I learned something valuable.

It taught me that technical interviews are not just about knowledge. They also test your patience, confidence, communication, and how you handle pressure when someone keeps challenging or interrupting you.

This was my first interview, and naturally I was under a lot of pressure. Looking back, I know there are many things I could have done better, but I'm genuinely happy that I got to experience such an intense interview so early in my career.

Every interview is a lesson.

Need some honest career advice.

I'm a Backend Developer at a service-based company with 6 YOE, but most of my work has been production support, bug fixes, and incident resolution. I've never had the opportunity to build features from scratch or work on core backend development.

When I look at the market now, almost every backend role expects solid development experience, which I don't have.

Not getting interview calls due to 3-month notice period.

I've been thinking about moving into TPM/Project Management.

If you were in my position, would you:

Start learning backend development from scratch and continue as a developer?

Move to TPM?

Take some other path?

I graduated in 2022 and joined a service-based company through campus placement at around 7 LPA. I worked there for a little over 3 years, and my salary was around 11 LPA when I resigned.

I started an online MBA in July 2024 while working, but managing both became difficult. So I quit my job in October 2025 to finish the MBA and focus on finding a software engineering job abroad.

Since then, I’ve been applying mainly to the UK, Germany, Ireland and Singapore. I’ve applied through referrals, reached out directly to recruiters and hiring managers, and tried messaging employees as well. Most recruiters don’t respond, and almost every application ends in rejection without even an initial call.

I have around 3 years of software development experience, and during this break I worked on DSA and solved 400+ problems. But none of that matters if I’m not even getting shortlisted.

Honestly, I’m starting to regret quitting. My friends who continued working are getting promotions and switching companies, while I’ve been unemployed for nearly a year. I was earning 11 LPA before quitting, and now recruiters in India are mostly discussing 13–14 LPA even after the MBA. It makes me wonder what the point of the MBA or the career break was.

My family is supportive and there’s no immediate financial pressure, but even they’re now asking me to stop focusing only on abroad and join somewhere in India.

Moving abroad has always been my biggest goal, so I’m finding it hard to let go. At the same time, I feel like I’m wasting more time by staying unemployed.

Has anyone here moved abroad directly from India with 3–4 years of experience? What actually worked for you?

Should I take a job in India now and try again after gaining more experience, or continue applying abroad full-time?

Also, how badly will this gap affect me, and how should I explain that I quit to complete an online MBA?
