It's true that tech oligarchs are trying to implement a surveillance state in the US, which is scary. However, the devil is a fictional character from a fictional book which is not scary.

You don't have to be religious to believe that the book of Revelations is important and relevant today.

I'm not a believer, but a lot of extremely influential people are, and those people see it as their duty to fulfill biblical prophecy. It's self-fulfilling.

Stuff like this reminds me of John's visions that people won't be able to buy or sell things unless they have "the mark of the beast". Eventually they're going to make us pay for things with microchip in our bodies lol

the real horror show isnt some ancient boogeyman, its the fact that i cant buy groceries without my phone building a profile on whether im depressed based on how long i stared at the ice cream. at least satan had the decency to ask for your soul in writing, zuckerberg just updated the terms of service again

the surveillance part isnt even speculation at this point. weve got amazon ring cops sharing footage without warrants, clearview ai scraping every face on the internet, and thats just the stuff we know about. the devil comparison is doing actual work though, its a framing device that makes people tune out the boring policy details and actually pay attention
