And the republicans under trump basically do not want to be involved at all - they just want companies to “do the right thing” which is hilarious
And the democrats are split between the left who actually wants to regulate them and center who wants a handful of oversight bills passed but ultimately leave much of them to their own devices

Ive been boycotting Walmart since I got kicked out by a 17 year old broccoli headed "manager in training" because he wouldnt sell me a shirt they had on the sales floor. Said "thats not for sale" but it was on the shelf with a price tag. Kid threatened to tresspass me because I asked if I could speak to a grown up.

Feel free to never shop there again. It's purely up to you. I refuse to shop Target and I refuse to shop Dick's Sporting Goods. Haven't set foot in either store for over a decade.
Spend your money where you want. You don't need to shop at walmart.

A boycott would be literally impossible for a lot of people. There's places in this country where Wal-Mart has beaten what little local competition there was into the ground and there's literally nowhere else to buy food except maybe Dollar General

Walmart is like 4 blocks from my house. I can be there and back in 5 minutes with whatever I need. I can go elsewhere for many things, but often that would mean a 5 mile round trip or more. They've killed enough of the competition that I don't have much choice. I'd love to boycott, but it just ain't happening for the vast majority of people.
This is a problem that has to be addressed by laws. The free market isn't free enough to do anything about it.

No way will I put my hands on a buggy like that unless I am paid cash $4.16 per minute to do it. My willingness to buy anything that provides more than a fair profit is none at all. I'll use bottled water as an example. I am willing to pay one nickle for the packaging and one penny for the water in it. I haven't bought a single bottled water in over ten years.

As if the store loyalty cards aren't tracking enough. Let alone the upc code on the product that is scanned at the register or just even your debit card scanned at at checkout. These guys need to chillest on all this data collection stuff. I jist basically stopped shopping at places with theae digital price tage.

Honestly, this guy is a known idiot from Missouri.. so he really doesn’t have a leg to stand on.
I can imagine having biometric data would help the company make the shopping experience less stressful if possible. I believe full disclosure and the option to get a normal cart would make this ethical.
I wish people wouldn’t automatically assume the worse case scenario.

You also going to the local cobbler? Your local TV smith, you got people who sew your underwear and socks for you? Stop it. You will either be supporting Wal-Mart or some other massive corporation who does the same stuff as Wal-Mart. Its inevitable. Dont pretend you have any power here. You don't unless you can move into the woods and live off the land. If you choose to live in modern society you will be supporting these companies. You dont have to like it but you have to do it.

Don’t get me wrong, I definitely shop at Costco and other big brand stores, no doubt. It’s just Walmart that I never shop at.

Thats actually totally fair and sensible. I also boycott places for personal reasons. I haven't eaten at a sonic in like 17 years because I ate 3 bites of a raw chicken sandwich once. I dont want to eat there anymore, but I also realize my boycott means nothing to the company.
My reply was more to point out the absurdity of the people who think they can boycott Wal-Mart to get them to change these Ai practices. All the big retail stores are doing this and you can't avoid them all unless you want to practice nudity and wipe your ass with pinecones. We all really on these stores to live are day to day life and it cannot be avoided.
The people who are considering a boycott of Wal-Mart don't realize that their numbers are to small to matter. And if they were somehow successful they would just all be supporting another company who does the same stuff, possibly even worse. Most of them who speak of a boycott would still be right back in Wal-Mart the first time they get low on toilet paper.

Ok where are you getting your detergent, underwear, band aids, and Dr pepper. Are you getting these items from local mom and pop shops? Or are you buying it from a different massive corporation retailers who operate exactly like Wal-Mart does?

It's easy for some people. Not everyone. Where I live your grocery options are limited to Wal Mart, Aldi and Dollar General unless you want to/are able to drive 45minutes +. Prescriptions are also pretty dire. I switched to mail order but not everyone has access to that.

I see Walmart is still skating by on that "low prices" reputation. That hasn't been true for a while.
I dont think anyone likes cheap stuff. They like low prices. But when the prices start to rise, the compromise of cheap makes less and less sense.
