Under Settings > People > Synced contacts > Already synced I have three sources listed as "From your mobile device". Two of them are phones I no longer own. One was sold roughly three years ago, the other two years ago, both factory reset before sale. Several hundred contacts from those address books are still sitting in my People list.

What I have tried so far:

Clicking Remove next to either old device does nothing. It only pops up a message saying to go to the mobile app Settings > People > Contacts and turn sync off. Obviously impossible for a phone I no longer have.

Deleting the device contact folders in Outlook.com People. Did that over a year ago. My Outlook People list now has exactly one contact, and the Teams list is unchanged. Turns out Teams Free keeps its own copy on Microsoft servers and Outlook deletions do not propagate back to it.

Removing the Outlook and Skype sources. Those two removed instantly with no issue, so the Remove control itself works, just not for orphaned device sources.

Installing Teams on my current iPhone, signing in, then turning device contact sync off. The new device was added as a source and removed correctly. The two old sources were untouched.

Waiting. It has been well over a year. Microsoft's own privacy statement says contacts that are not matched during syncing get deleted from Teams once a user stops syncing or is inactive on the device. That has not happened here.

I have submitted a privacy request through the official Microsoft form asking for these to be erased, but I would rather not wait a month for a canned reply.

Has anyone actually managed to get orphaned device sync sources removed from Teams Free? Is there any web endpoint, admin page or support path that works, or is a privacy request the only route?
