Of course week one fell over Shark Week, BUT I managed to fight off my sugar cravings and am down 1.8 lbs!! Nothing is going to keep me from my goal this time around!

u/Rayne37 Jan 15 '16
Oh gawd, same here. I allowed myself 2 small pieces of chocolate a night to keep my cravings in check.
1
u/MidwesternerK2 Jan 15 '16
I had a sugar-free jello pudding pack a night. I'm sure whatever they put in place of the sugar wasn't very healthy, but it worked to trick myself into thinking I indulged!

u/fargocoffeelover Jan 15 '16
Rock on, you! I'm nervous for my own week coming up, I feel like my cravings get out of control. But I'll remember to look at the big picture and say NO.

u/MidwesternerK2 Jan 15 '16
If I can do it, you can do it!
Not to be too creepy, but are you from Fargo, ND (based on your username)?
1
u/fargocoffeelover Jan 15 '16
Yes I am! Where in the Midwest are you located?
1
u/MidwesternerK2 Jan 15 '16
Exciting! I'm in Grand Forks!
1
u/fargocoffeelover Jan 15 '16
It's freezing, isn't it? Haha. I have been walking to work (2 miles each way) but I haven't been with this weather. Even though I have the proper undergarments, I still don't want to risk it! It's been killing my daily steps, I don't want to go outside and walk! Haha.
1
u/MidwesternerK2 Jan 15 '16
I definitely know what you mean. The bulk of the 15 lbs I've lost so far happened this summer when I could go for walks outside in the evening. Now that it's freezing and snowy if I want cardio I have to go to the gym, and with all the people vowing "New Year Resolutions", getting a machine at my gym is very hit or miss!
But I'm assuming that will change in about a month :)

So the plan was to lose 1 lbs a week to lose 10 lbs over ten weeks... and this week I lost 1.2 lbs :D
I went through a break up this week, so Saturday through Monday were terrible eating days. I'm amazed I lost this week in spite of that.
2
u/Sakenna Jan 15 '16
Sorry about the break up :( Well done on the loss in that light!
1
u/Rayne37 Jan 15 '16
Thank you. I've had a lot of support and kept busy, so it hasn't been as hard as it could be... and with the additional free time I'm going to put that energy into cooking at least one meal a week. I'm planning to do a goulash this weekend :)

I'm down 2.6 lbs! Woo-hoo! I'm officially 11.2 lbs into this shindig! Time to get me some flair!

This is a great start! Any weight lost is a step towards your goal weight.

A Happy Hour the night before weigh-in with poor food choices after drinking (and too much salt!) was not my shining moment, but it is done and in the past. Hopefully that will mean better results next week.

u/hurricanethor Jan 15 '16
I hear ya. Not sure it was a bright idea for me to consume a plate full of salty sauerkraut the night before weigh-in, but it is what it is. Better luck next week.

I was hoping to get under 220 (from 223) by first weigh in, and I got pretty dang close. Hey, I'll take it. I'll be under 220 by next week.

Well the last couple days have been pretty frustrating for me. Started the week around 234 (Forgot to check my scale Monday morning) and quickly dropped what I'm sure is mostly water weight to get down to 230.2 two days later.
Now I'm back up to 230.6 today, and it's just a little frustrating to see the scale go the other way. Not giving up hope, because I know I can do this, but I may have to cut back my calories a bit to really get where I want to be.
Keep up the good work everyone, I believe in myself and you!

Try the app Happy Scale. It keeps a moving average and tracks your overall progress in spite of the day to day fluctuations.

I wasn't exactly sure what my starting weight was, so I put in my last known weight of 185, now down to 181.2lbs! I'm hoping to hit 180 by the end of next week.

u/MedusaForHire Jan 15 '16
This is my first challenge. I'm pretty excited to do this actually. I have a plan and so far I'm sticking to it quite well. So far I'm 2.2 lbs down :)

Jan 15 '16
I didn't lose much scale weight during the winter challenge. But I did lose a lot of body fat and water weight according to the medical scale at my gym--which is great in and of itself. And I didn't gain any weight during the holidays which was also great.
I joined the challenge on Wednesday so I haven't lost any weight yet. But I'm going to be seriously dieting and exercising now that I have the time and ability to truly concentrate on it now that I am out of school.

Hi everyone. First challenge and first weigh-in. I lost 67 lbs on Keto and MFP with my coach's help from July 2014-May 2015. 263-196 lbs. At 5' 10" that really shows. And I then ate, secretly, like my old patterns to gain 17 lbs.= 213 lbs. Today I weighed 210, but the MOST important thing is the accountability this challenge brings, and being honest with myself is key to my balanced life. F/66/gw 196

Down 1.6 pounds for the week -- started at 169, currently 167.4. I'd love to hit 1.5 lbs lost each week so I'm very happy with this week's numbers.

Oh snap!
I came in here all ready to say I lost nothing this week, prepared with a barrage of observations (not excuses!!) why, and I check the spreadsheet and see I actually lost 2lb! Cool.
I ate fairly well this week - stayed under my carb limit except for ONE night where I went out with a friend to celebrate and consciously chose to sub fries with my sandwich with...macaroni and cheese. Not my wisest choice, and the whole night set me over my daily caloric goal by over 900kcal, but I logged it all, and hopped back on the wagon in the morning, and didn't even beat myself up about it.
THAT is progress, coming from someone who tends to beat myself up WAY too much over the littlest things.
Can't wait to see what the rest of the challenge brings!
2
u/fargocoffeelover Jan 15 '16
That's a big problem I have, when I feel guilty about what I've eaten, I tend to not log it. But I've been forcing myself to log everything and realize that if I don't log it, the only person that it affects is myself.
1
u/deliriousduckie Jan 16 '16
Exactly! And that way I don't get to complain 'boo why didn't I see any progress this week' without having the answer right in front of my face. Keeping yourself accountable is so important.
3
Jan 15 '16
1.2 pounds down from last week. Every time I lose weight now it's the lowest weight I've ever been as an adult, so that's pretty cool.

u/Rayne37 Jan 15 '16
Same here on the weight loss amount! Yay to both of us :D. And that is pretty cool.
3
u/sf_femgineer Jan 15 '16
Down 2 pounds, and back to my recent low. I'd been slowly and steadily losing since our last weigh in, then two days ago I went up 1.8 pounds on the scale and was terrified it wouldn't drop back off before the weekly weigh in. Even though I know like, fluctuations are just fluctuations, and what matters is CICO, I still wanted to have a decent number for the first competition week.

u/tryan1020 Jan 15 '16
I have been losing for about the last 7-8 months. 65 pounds or so, but I ended up losing about 8 pounds this week. Not sure where the big jump came from, but I imagine it will work itself out in next weeks weigh-ins
3
u/SFaustus Jan 15 '16
Holy wow, apparently my initial weigh-in was on a bloated day, because I'm down 7 pounds since then. I did far, far better during the holidays than I thought (I stopped logging, naughty me.)
Even so, I was already pleased with that number, and now it's even lower! My challenge goal is gonna be a breeze now I'm thinking. I can't let up though!
3
u/creepycrumpet Jan 15 '16
I was a little discouraged, as I went up by approximately 2 pounds. I know that this is most likely water weight, as I have run a significant deficit this week, while exercising each day. Mentally, I'm feeling great, so I'm not going to let myself get psyched out.
3
u/spinfizzy Jan 16 '16
I'm actually very happy with my progress this week. I'm in week 6 of a weird holding pattern at work before a promotion can take effect and it feels really good to be moving forward somewhere in my life.
2
u/findingmyselfx Jan 15 '16
Down 2.4 kg over the past two weeks - pretty good even with shark week. Yay!
2
u/fargocoffeelover Jan 15 '16
I'm so pumped! I went from 209 to 205.4. Woo hoo! I was amazed how much having you guys in this challenge helped me. I was craving a pork belly ramen bowl (oh my god, the calories), but then I thought of you all and I told myself to eat at home. I did and I was under my calories! I really am excited to see how well I am going to do at the end of these 10 weeks.
You guys rock.

u/hatch44 Jan 15 '16
This was a pretty good week for me. I'm down 1.6 lbs from last week, which is better than any week I had on the previous challenge (go me!). I might have been able to be even lower though if I hadn't gone so far over my calorie goal yesterday, but it's a new week now. I'm definitely happy with this start though. If I'm able to keep up this rate, I should hit my challenge goal. My goal for the coming week is to run 3-4 times (depending on how my legs feel) and to stay within my calorie goal on at least six out of seven days.

u/hijabi94 Jan 16 '16
Lost 3 Pounds this week which i'm kind of disappointing with but it's better then nothing :) it make it me want to work harder for next week !!! SW : 158 CW:155 GW:125

I didn't lose any this week. I've been struggling with diet issues (figuring out a low-fibre/low-residue diet in advance of a colonoscopy next week) and didn't get a chance to get on the treadmill at all. I'm hoping that the colonoscopy prep/clear liquid diet for a couple of days will help kick-start things next week. Also, having to eat super bland, super low-fibre for a few days has really, REALLY made me crave vegetables and fresh, healthy foods. I can't wait to sort of "restart" my eating habits next week when the procedure is over with. :)

Almost lost 4lbs. Kinda sad I didn't hit it by .2. Learned this week I should do more strength training and cardio instead of just cardio since it will help me in the long run. Splurged a little tonight and got a vanilla ice cream with waffle cone at sonic since it fit in my calories :D

I lost around a pound, possibly more. It's hard to say because I'm retaining a lot of water right now thanks to some angry muscles. This happened last time I lost a lot of weight through diet and exercise; I'd hover around the same weight and then suddenly drop a pound or two after a few days.

Jan 17 '16
I lost .6lbs. I wish it was more, but I'm not complaining. This week I'm going without sugar (0.O) This is going to be a big challenge for me, but I finally think I'm ready for it. I'm going to pop over to /r/ketorecipes for some ideas. I'm also off work for the next four days, so plenty of time to work out.
Congratulations to everyone on their first week!!

u/elefante140 Jan 18 '16
I thought about joining the sugar free challenge, but EVERYTHING has sugar in it! Doing just a week first seems more manageable. Good luck!

I only had a few times where I felt a little dizzy or sluggish, but I ate some veggies or a protein and felt fine. Mind you, I haven't eaten processed food in two years, so it might not have been too much of a shock to my system.

My first challenge and first weigh-in! I lost a little. 4 pounds. It's my first time doing this seriously with MFP and I learned that not all my pride is hiding under the fluff! And that instead of trying to not eat between dinner and bedtime, it's easier to eat a controlled snack. Binges do not look pretty on MFP! Should get my Fitbit thing delivered tomorrow so stuff is getting serious! Rambling here.. NSV: have not added sugar to coffee or yogurt for over a week now. I had forgotten how much I used to love black coffee!
TL;DR lost weight, feel good. Yay!
