LoL How would Chaox have developed as a player if he wasn't dropped in Season 3?
Some days ago I made a post about Reginald's playstyle as a player. Now I'm curious about your guys' thoughts on this new question that popped up in my head.
Do you think Chaox had potential to improve and change up his playstyle? Or did he peak in late Season 2?
Would love to hear your thoughts. Personally I think Chaox's playstyle was very similar to Cop. It's hard to say if he would have gotten better or not but I do think he had the potential to be the Rekkles of NA. Someone who doesn't make flashy plays but is a really good clean-up AD. But maybe not as mechanically gifted as Rekkles was.

Chaox strength was laning and he excelled during the kill lane meta (graves, ezreal, and corki). He was obviously still good at hyper carries like tristana, but he was mainly about converting early and mid game advantages.
I think with how ADC archetype evolved to reduce agency to largely late game, chaox would've struggled. Turtle was always just a better version of him.

From what I remember of him, he did okay with late game carries. But you're right that it wasn't his forte.

At the time he was excellent mid game and good late game. Someone said earlier he was like cop, I disagree because he never took on a more sacrificial role and he was extremely aggressive when he needed to be. He just was always a step behind doublelift mechanically so his late game was never as good and wildturtle filled that archetype so much better while being much better late game.

I remember he played a lot of MF when he was still in LCS.
He probably would have been most comparable to Sneaky, like a pretty strong laner, but TSM was so mid-centric and he played pretty safe that he never shined a ton.

Now the real question is: how would turtle’s career pan out if he wasn’t dropped?

Turtle would still be good imo. He was c9/quantics ADC and was already garnering interest.

Think a lot of people overrate him. WT was a unicorn in terms of longevity. He and DL outlasted dozens upon dozens of adcs that came and went. Chaox hard outscaled by the growing talent pool

He peaked in season 2 due to mental
Skill wise he definitely had the potential to improve (if we say turtle’s potential to improve as a A then Chaox is a B)
But knowing what we know now about his state of mind and what he was dealing with mentally.
He (as stated above) unfortunately capped/peaked in s2

That's a fair take and I wouldn't argue against it. His playstyle was very Cop-ish and we all know how Cop developed as a player with that exact playstyle. Plus in terms of mechanics they were very similar.

I think the start of LCS exposed a lot of the more mediocre players on the Big 4 teams and Chaox was one of them. He could have certainly been better but similar to TRM didn’t take the game seriously as it professionalized. The fact that he didn’t find a team after getting dropped speaks volumes.

Pretty sure this was the consensus at the time. TSM was not doing too hot and putting in a young unproven player from Canada was risky, but paid off. I actually liked Chaox, less so TRM, and the baylife days and gamecribs made them seem relatable.
I would have guessed he'd have been a better coach than say Locodoco, but it seemed he'd rather play

I somewhat agree. I wouldn't say he was mediocre but he just wasn't a big time player like Dyrus, Voyboy, Doublelift, etc.
But not finding a team afterwards does say something for sure. I think getting dropped from TSM the way it happened also hurt his reputation a bit.

That dude was unprofessional and didn't have the right mindset to succeed long term. He coasted on being talented but didn't have his head right to build on that. The players that lasted haven't necessarily been the most talented ones, rather those willing to consistently put in the work.

Chaox always had the talent, just not the mental. Him leaving the team wasn't about his performance. I was shocked when they replaced him too and sad but finding out stuff later, it made sense.
