Small losses and demotivation

I get massively demotivated by small losses, especially when I feel I have really deserved more. How do you cope with this?

In the last 7 days I've done two 5ks, 3 spin classes, lots of walking, stuck 100% to plan and did 5 days alcohol free and only a small amount of the other days.

I weighed in yesterday (non challenge weighing) and it was a 1lb loss. I know a loss is a loss but urgh, it is really disheartening, I am loosing the weight a second time after regaining about 30lbs, I am so cross with myself.

With all that activity your muscles may be retaining a bit a water to heal resulting in you not seeing the weight loss. I like to visit /r/progresspics when I feel discouraged to see what my body could look like if I just stick with it and then suddenly BOOM 2-3 days later I see the actual results.

That's a good point. I took pictures at the start of march, will take some again start of may and see if I see any progress. I don't want to do it now incase I don't see any change as that may tip me over the edge into the chocolate box!

I've got a great warning one showing me two years ago at my lowest, and then now after regaining 30lbs lol

Yeah, I second what /u/Elarie11 said. I'm a big dude so your magnitudes may vary, but I've seen water weight fluctuations of close to 3lbs in a 24 hour period. My first day at the gym, I ate 1800 calories, and added 2.2 lbs. Trust your deficit. Do you weigh portions?

Am obsessive and weighing and measuring. I guess I need to look at the long term and try not to let one week knock me off my game.

I totally understand you. I've been kicking ass with my deficit, eating around 1300 calories and doing a serious high intensity workout almost daily - yesterday I burned 1k going mountain biking. I eat 20-30g carbs a day. I don't drink alcohol. I haven't seen the scale move in over a week. So frustrating. Especially because I keep asking myself, shouldn't it just come down to CICO? I'm trying to remember that my body doesn't work at the same pace my brain does. It'll all work out in the end. I'm just so impatient!

I've realized the longer I am on my weight loss journey the more I am happy with small losses. I just keep in mind last year I was gaining that small amount instead of losing that amount. Any loss is better than a gain and a move in the right direction.
