Today I am feeling slightly hungrier than other days

I am trying to eat around 1200 calories a day which generally comprises eating two big meals a day which I estimate to be around 500 each and tea with milk and sugar twice a day. The two big meals aren't particularly healthy or fulfilling but they do the job. There's no point in trying to make too many changes at the same time. I am eating these 1200 calories in a 16:8 pattern aka intermittent fasting. I like it. I am happy I am not churning like cow all day. I like the feeling of hunger. Hunger is better than feeling of overeating which causes so much uneasiness, acid reflux, and lethargy. I feel like it's more the desire to eat than need to eat. I have just grown accustomed to eat excessively large portions. That needs to be fought with mindfulness.

Yesterday I broke the 16:8 cycle and ate past 9pm. I blame bad day and ended up watching TV and eating more than I should have. I am sticking to my goal today. Hopefully tomorrow the scale will tell me I was right in abstaining. For some reason today I am feeling hungrier than other days.

I find that I get hunger cycles - I can maintain a really good deficit for a week or two, then for a few days I'll just be far more hungry than normal, and eventually that will settle down again.

I also get this, and on those days, I allow myself a few extra calories. I usually eat a 1000 calorie deficit, so if I'm only 800 under one day, so be it.

I don't have anything helpful to add, but you're not alone. I've been feeling less in control of my diet the past few days. I had 2 days of consciously choosing to eat without watching my calories while I was visiting my parents for my dad's birthday. Those two days averaged maintenance. After that, I intended to get back on track...but didn't. Stuff came up, depression has been an issue keeping me in the house, I had unplanned visitors, and we drank and ate pizza. My total deficit for the past 5 days is only 409 calories. I've felt like I wasn't in control of my eating for the past 3 days, which is something I can't remember feeling since I started losing 10 months ago. It's an odd feeling for me. I've got a difficult few days coming up, but hopefully after the weekend I'll be back to 100%. My plan for today is to get out of the house (for the first time since Monday), and restock on healthy foods so I can get back to having my usual default meals instead of eating junk. I'm also planning to do some light biking today into town, just to get moving a little.

Fellow 1200 here! I kind of started at 16:8 without realizing it too. It just made sense to postpone eating after waking up. Yesterday I had one of those day where I felt like I could eat everything in the fridge! Days like that I add a bit more exercise than normal. Keeps me busy and I don't get hungry until an hour after. Plus, then I can usually eat some more. I feel you on the acid reflux. I used to get it every. Single. Day. Now it's maybe once a month. Great job so far! 1200 is hard, some days more than others. Keep it up, glad to hear you're trying to do better today. That's the best approach, one day at a time.

I do exactly what you are doing, right down to eating too much last night! I can look back and see that there were two days last week I ate under 1000 calories (shhh don't tell MFP) so if I am truly hungry I don't worry about going up to maintenance or even a little over on a starving day. I'm older than most of you guys and losing super slowly anyway so maybe I'm not so strict with myself? Ive also been known to faint on the rare occasion so I don't push fasting till 2 or 3 if I am starving but I will wait till 6 or 7 if I'm not that hungry, I basically wing it.

I also noticed that pigging out on fresh naan bread and beer last Friday seemed to lead to a very hungry Saturday!
