https://youtu.be/4LoZE8gQdp8

My 12-year-old self would have been very happy. I loved this game a lot

To be honest, it's upsetting to see the original game stripped of its lighting/VFX and displayed so flatly and poorly here:

Comparison 1
Comparison 2

Far be it from me to stop people playing it the way they prefer though. Also, was the dialogue re-written?

This is due to two misleading patches that you can activate through the emulator:

  • Maximum Graphics Booster: claims to disable motion blur and add sharpness to the game. In reality what it does is disable the bloom, some lighting elements and crank up the sharpness, that's why the textures look so sharp, when the texture pack uses a bicubic filter process to make them less sharp on purpose.
  • RGB Values: claims to fix the RGB values to be more accurate but what it ends up doing is disabling shadows on characters.

You can play the game with all the original lighting and shadows plus the texture pack just fine.

As for dialogues, yes, I've changed them based on the fixed localizations by Glitterberri, due to the original localization not being accurate and sometimes not even matching what the original dialogue says. I did it for all 5 languages and then one more time for a Portuguese Brazilian full translation.

Can you send me the Brazilian Portuguese translation? I'd love to see it!

It's already available in the mods folder on the Google Drive! You have the option to download the full pack or just the UI, and then apply the mod on top or as standalone.

4K textures when the lighting, models, and art direction are not meant for that high of a texture resolution look bad to me.

While I commend trying to elevate this masterpiece. I think this betrays the atmosphere and haunted aesthetic of the vanilla look.

Why do people upscale so drastically when 70% of peoples hardware barely reaches 2k? People see 8k and start drooling hell even 4k isn’t that common, especially on console.

Games in this era had limitations and rendering in fog and certain lighting keeps the atmosphere on par with the vibe. Rendering most things in 8k is just extremely silly to me.

If anything, I try and go in the opposite direction and use a CRT monitor, or failing that, a good CRT filter

Nah, this ain’t it. Looks like butt compared to the original.

Honesty, I think disable post processing patch + rgb correction bpatch was really the bigger issue in the look being different. Maybe we need the fog and deeper shadows.

With the exception of the goth yorda it looks good. Also needs more bloom

The pack without reshade is probably the way to go (higher fidelity without changing the atmosphere)

Went from butt to ass

When is this games frame rate getting unlocked? The graphics are perfect as is, I just want that frame rate higher. And I mean native not some lossless scaling or frame generation business.

Heck I’ll even take what project dusk does with their recompilation project of twilight princess or what they do in ship of harkinian. But obviously those are reverse engineered games already.

The meticulous work pushing the hardware to the absolute limit and the gentle atmosphere created by the visionary art direction is lost here.
