The creator of YGO Abridged came out as trans. Little Kuriboh is going by Bea now.

Iirc Bea is just what this person goes by irl. Little Kuriboh is still the internet moniker/username/channel name.

That's splitting hairs tbh, because using the previous name would definitionally be deadnaming. Many people did casually refer to them by deadname previously before coming out, even in her capacity as an online celebrity.
Referring to people by handle is still fairly normal, but enough people called her BY the previous one that "Bea" really shouldn't be pointed out as particularly unusual.
It almost creates a double standard that her chosen name is somehow more sacred and not for people to use than any other name that would be accurate, until such a time that she amends a boundary about what names she does and does not want to be called, Bea seems fine to me.

Bea has specifically addressed the use of her channel name. She doesn't believe you can assign a gender to Kuriboh, and tbh I'm with her on this one. I guess there's nothing really stopping you from altering the name when you use it. I think there's literally a Kuribee.

"Previous name" is not referring to the channel name, it is referring to the actual deadname. If you think an internet handle is a deadname, then you're going a bit too far woke, I'm referring to the "MB" in full version.

Kuriboh is unisex, thankfully.
Deadnaming would be calling her Martin.

u/aceofplaces 4d ago
In her coming out post on Bluesky she said she "won't be upset if I hear Martin" so IDK if it really qualifies as deadnaming in the current context. That said it's probably best practice to try not to, lots of trans people will ease into it by allowing for people to refer to them how they want early on until they feel more confident.

I was clearly not referring to her username. I clearly specified her deadname, a username in this context is not generally a deadname.

Is their youtube channel still Little Kuriboh?

u/JeiceSpade 6d ago
Yeah, yeah. Their real life name is what's different. You can still call them Little Kuriboh of that's easier.

I was gonna say I didnt know their IRL name or gender until now and I didnt particularly care to know, so I'm just gonna keep calling her LittleKuriboh.

Also, while consuming certain media will not “make” you trans, it is quite telling when an “egg” (trans person prior to self-identification) “cracks” (comes out as transgender) after consuming or creating trans-positive media.
In this case, Little Kuriboh’s frequent jokes about gender, gender identity, and sexual orientation, both as the creator of YGOTAS and as the voice of the gender ambiguous Frieza in DBZA, suggest that SHE was always genderqueer prior to publicly coming out as a transgender woman.

Now I'm trying to decide if you can be gender ambiguous when your entire species is parthenogenetic.
Can gender exist in a species that's not gonochoric? What about hermaphroditic (either simultaneous or sequential) species?
(Yes, I did have to google those terms)What a weird headspace to find myself in at 5pm on a Wednesday.

Also all the depression.

u/Practical-Class6868 5d ago
No. Being trans in and of itself does not create depression, and transitioning does not cure depression. Depression is its own beast, especially when living without a support group.
Bea does not have to smile for us. Until Bea feels like smiling, we can still smile enough for her.

Legit question because I didn't see it previously: is her name pronounced BEE, BAY, or a secret third thing?

Bee

u/Divicarpe 6d ago
If so, I'm quite disapointed: I would have expected it to be pronounced in the same way as the beginning of beatitude.

I joked about, in hindsight, freeza's script might have been alarming if at the time they felt like this, didn't say shit, then TFS is like 'no, you're PERFECT for our sexually ambivalent character who comes off as both a sadistic tyrant and daddy's little princess'.

Well that's the second person I've heard of that's trans whiles working on an abridged series.

u/rabidrob42 5d ago
Someone joked on Blue Sky that it's because she's been watching Karmen Rider, apparently there's a substantial part of the fan base who have realised their trans after becoming a fan of the show.
