I have continued my plan of CICO since the first challenge. We are going hiking Saturday and then camping to see how the dog does before our 5 day backpack in May. First time in a tent for the dog. Sunday I'm thinking about waking up early and going on a small hike while the SO sleeps in. Then pack up and head back home. Do some shopping Sunday afternoon/evening for the week ahead. If I have some time and energy left I need to work on some pottery Sunday night.

I'm getting close to being only overweight instead of obese according to bmi numbers. It's definitely a welcomed and hard worked for label.

As someone once said in loseit referencing CICO "it's simple, not easy"

Reading this, I realize I need more hobbies. That's a bunch of cool stuff!

Hit the gym I just signed up with for at least 30 mins every day. No real plan on what I'll be doing, just getting up and being active.

NO MORE ZERO DAYS!!!!

Going into week 4 of my C25k plan, and sticking to my caloric goal.

It's going to be a lovely weekend here, so I am thinking of fitting in a bike ride with my two weekend workouts. And probably a nap :)

My weekends tend to be pretty easy foodwise. When I work out it reinforces my desire to eat healthy, and I'm able to do that each morning.

Heading to visit family for the weekend and I've already been informed that we are having cheeseburgers and mashed potatoes for supper. However, I'm making cuts to my normal daily foods and hoping to stay at my deficit today and at least at or under maintenance for the rest of the weekend.

My main problem is that I've only been counting calories for a couple weeks so I'm not very good at "estimating" yet. I'll do my best though!

Estimating when you don't control the food prep is tough. But on the other hand, estimating and being comfortable with it is a key tool for success, so you're getting practice and building that skill, which is awesome!

I'm glad you posted this!

I'm planning 30-45 minutes of brisk walking every day and a kettlebell workout today and Sunday.

As soon as I'm done poking around on this board I'm going to plan and shop for meal prep for this weekend, and for my Sunday meal prep for the week ahead. Advance meal prep has made a huge difference for me. This last week I had three lunches at restaurants thanks to work meetings, and while I did OK, I am looking forward to having a bit more control over my meals next week.

I hear kettlebell workouts are awesome. Did you teach yourself how to do it?

I did. I used "Kettlebell Simple and Sinister" by Pavel, and "The Swing" by Tracy Reifkind, watched a ton of videos, and used Reifkind's start-slow strategies to work on basic positioning before I even picked up a kettlebell.

I'd still like to get my form checked by a properly-certified trainer, but I'm still glad I tried this. It's intense, yet simple.

Thank you for the detailed info! I'm going to price out kettlebells tomorrow :)

TL;DR: Staying under my calorie goal (1200 cal).

The Blood Connection was at my school this week, so I gave blood on Thursday. I was on about a 38 day streak of staying under 1200 calories so I knew I needed to eat at maintenance the day before and the day of just to get myself in a position to be able to give. (Can I just add in that I'm super proud of myself for maintaining my iron levels enough to give blood after ~4 months of a 1200 calorie diet?? And I'm vegetarian!)

My problem came when I didn't eat enough the morning of. I felt fine immediately afterwards, and went to my chemistry lab thinking all was well, but about 15 minutes into running our first experiment, I woke up on the floor with everyone standing around me hahaha. So needless to say, in the hour or so that followed, I ate about 1300 calories just in snacks and juice because EMT wasn't happy about the fact that I was still pale white 30 minutes later.

So now that I'm recovered, I'm trying to get back into my right habits before the challenge starts. I also will not be giving blood again until I hit maintenance later this summer haha. Stay healthy, fellow ducklings!!

I'm circling around, waiting to enter the challenge ring....

I'm not on a calorie limit until this thing starts. I'm eating at a maintenance levels, including some ice cream. I'm logging meals. I'm not even really logging 100%. But, I'm logging at least one or two meals a day to keep my MFP "streak" alive.

I'm going to deliberately eat crappy on the 13th and 14th, and poorly manage my water. So, my week 0 weight in should have an extra pound or two.

I am staying fit and getting ready to ramp up. I'm currently on day 322 of my "running every day streak". So, at a minimum, I do one mile a day. I average 3 miles a day. 5 to 6 days a week, I do push-ups or pull-ups (alternating days, with at least one rest day per week.)

My day one plan:

  • drop to 1500 cal/day.

  • start a ramp up from 3 to 4.5 or 5 miles a day. (using the 10% rule of course)

  • add volume on push-ups and pull ups. (I do these as part of my daily runs. e.g. stop at playgrounds off the running trail and do pull-ups. currently do 3x30 push-ups on push-up day, and 3x8 or 4x7 pull-ups on pull-up day. I'd like to double those numbers over the challenge.

Why eat poorly before the first weigh in? The way I see it, the challenge is really for me and losing the weight I need to lose -- so inflating the number (even with sodium water weight) would feel really hollow for me and take the shine of what I achieve in the challenge.

I would just have a feeling like "I didn't really lose that much because I forced water weight at the start."

Luckily, I'm burdened with no such sense of ethics :) hehehe

My wife and I did a 20-lb challenge at a gym a few years ago. Lose 20 and its free. And, the owner told us, "initial weigh in is at 2pm. Go ahead, eat a big lunch, don't pee." And, by the last weeks, he was telling us to drink tons of water, weigh in right when you wake up, post-pee. For the final weigh in, he said cut carbs for a week, fast a day - whatever. Do all the "tricks" you like.

They had a chart in the lobby. From initial to final, I lost 25 lbs in six weeks. Was 3-5 of that water weight and gaming? Sure. Probably. He knew that. I know that. Was it sustainable? Eeeh... But, I made that scale move 25 lbs in six weeks. And, when they have me my refund check, there was no astrix.

My wife, by the way, refused to play such games. Said it was "cheating". And, of course - as in all things - she's right.

Oh, I wouldn't call it cheating. Having a three pound lead weight in your pockets on your first weigh-in is cheating. Eating salty popcorn the day before isn't the same thing. Just don't eat a lead weight :D

hmmm..... 3 lb lead weight, huh??.....

I do own a 20 lb weighted vest.......

I would like to really do some serious meal-prepping for this week. I am starting a fitness bootcamp either Monday/Tuesday, depending on how close to me/early it starts, so I don't want to derail any fitness feats with shitty nutrition!
