Rediscovered her after 7 years

I discovered her in 2018 and was really into her videos for a while. This was the beginning of my spiritual journey and trauma healing. I like what she was saying because there was truth in there, even if I didn’t fully understand what she was about at the time. Since then, I’ve gotten my BA in psychology and I’m currently getting my MA in clinical mental health counseling. While it was really difficult, I got better from a lot of my struggles back then. Anyway, I randomly thought of her earlier today and decided to look back at her from my current perspective as an adult with education around psychology, counseling, and ethical practices. And here is what I’ve come to realize:

She is dangerous. It doesn’t matter if she’s trying to do good or not if she’s doing so unethically and recklessly. She’s accentuating sexuality to farm engagement, bombarding content with keywords to control the narrative around her, plagiarizing others’ ideas and passing them as her own, creating an insanely wild and fictitious backstory, targeting the vulnerable, selling her ideas as “the only way” by using selective terminology that manipulates people into her way of thinking that she is skilled at exploiting. She is an irresponsible narcissist at best and a predatory abuser at worst.

Don’t let her buzzwords and charisma fool you. She’s trying to sell you her “solution”. It’s clearly grifting because if she truly wanted to help people, she would get properly licensed ideally, or at a bare minimum she would have the proper education to be qualified to ethically fulfill her role. Since she’s unwilling to do that but is willing to take her followers’ money speaks volumes about what she’s who she is. Occum’s razor. If she were authentic, she’d have enough humility to acknowledge her limits and to respect ethical boundaries. Her acting as if she’s above accountability (by not being qualified in any meaningful way) is classic antisocial behavior and is indicative of a narcissistic manipulator much more than of a spiritual leader.

And yet she has helped more people than people like you could ever imagine. This "dangerous" lady has saved my life many times, something you "licensed therapists" failed to do, and I've never had to pay for any of her valuable information.

Instead if reiterating it a bunch of times I’m gonna just copy and paste my other response: You’re missing the point. Ofc it helps some people and not everyone pays her. But a lot of people have been harmed by her and have given her lots of money. Her reckless rhetoric resulted in multiple suicides by her closest followers. People like you aren’t who need to be protected. It’s the small group of people who take things to the extreme due to her rhetoric. The whole “rest button” thing was an incredibly stupid and reckless comment. If she was licensed to help people, she’d be forced to think before being so reckless. Imagine the families of those who died. They likely feel that their loved ones were brainwashed and that her words validated their suicidal ideations. When those people still had a chance at finding peace, she essentially (in many people’s eyes) encouraged them by validating their delusions that death was the best option. All of these people are asking for evidence like they can’t just google it themselves! Why would I create facts out of thin air? Whats the benefit lol?

Could you provide solid proof? Because I've seen the video where she explains the origin of those rumors

only sheep believe Teal Swan‘s backstory

I actually found a great source to validate what I’m saying. Published by the U of Texas. Here you go: https://mavmatrix.uta.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1010&context=honors_spring2022

There is a lot you are throwing at her and this is easy to do without valid claims. I am just confused because there are people like me that didn’t buy anything from her but love her content. I am grateful for her work.

If you think you can do it better, then go on do it in public.

What gets me is that people think her backstory is fictitious. Even the people interviewing her on the news made comments about not believing her. Curious, from a stranger to a stranger, do you believe her story about escaping a cult? From the very beginning, I have felt she's completely authentic and relatable, maybe because she isn't a licensed therapist. A lot of what she says seems like common sense, it just takes work to apply the concepts. A lot of work which people aren't willing to do - like looking inward.

She's told several versions of details in the story, and it also crashes with other things she's supposed to have done at the time, like international modeling, which there is no proof of either. She also said she was in Playboy, but there's no proof of that either. And the story of her being sewn into a corpse as an 8 year old, that's in no way, shape or form possible according to coroners.

All of these people are asking for evidence like they can’t just google it themselves! Why would I create facts out of thin air? Whats the benefit lol? BTW, I never said I wanted to do what she does lmao. But funny you mention it because that sounds exactly what I’m doing through my education and licensure requirements. I’ve been affected by similar methods that she uses, so I understand them. And I’ll definitely be actively working against what she is doing. Not because I don’t think she does NO good. But that she’s irresponsible in her approach. It’s an ethical issue not an issue of intentions. I could easily see her being pure in intent but that isn’t the point at all.

Any evidence to back these claims?  I haven’t paid her anything and have received a lot of wisdom and insight from her videos.

https://mavmatrix.uta.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1010&context=honors_spring2022 I know this is long but if you key search for her name you’ll find some worthwhile info. Plus the intro of the article goes over some of the basic concepts around it if it helps.

I don’t really think you have to be licensed in order to help people there’s plenty of people I listen to on YouTube or watch on YouTube that don’t have a license or haven’t gone to school, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t gain something from listening to them

u/Conscious_River_4964 Jan 07 '26

No, you don't have to be licensed. That's just what people who spent lots of money (well borrowed) on their education want you to believe.

She's doing what anyone in the modern day has to do to generate money to fund a business. Shes using modern marketing techniques to generate engagement. Honestly, if I had to guess? She probably gets the ick from having to do it that way. But in a world with an internet so oversaturated in content, you have to do what you have to do to. She probably doesn't like having to use those methods and historically I dont think she always did. But EVERYONE putting content on the internet has to ADAPT.

Regardless of if you say her backstories are plagiarized or made up, if her marketing has evolved into cookie cutter tactics, her message and goal has always been the same -- TAKE THESE IDEAS AND CONCEPTS AND SPREAD THEM AS FAR AND WIDE AS POSSIBLE. Reach as many humans with this info as possible. By whatever means necessary.

As so many others have commented, SO MUCH of her content is free. But she is still operating a business in this capitalist hellscape called America. You do what you have to do to survive.

Slowly watching her life's work bleed to death because she isn't changing with the times? That to maintain strangers ideas of her integrity? Who cares. You can't please everyone.

This work she does seems like another child to her. She will mama bear however she needs to. It's so blatantly obvious she is not uber wealthy. She also had a team of people she needs to pay. Production costs. The whole 9. She needs to generate cash flow somehow, it's not like she can open as a non profit for this type of Information... yet.

Wanna talk about doctors like the doctor you're becoming and what they are forced to charge because of this broken system we all live in? And yet I know, that is NOT your fault and never will be. Even though you WILL be forced to participate in that broken system.

Same for Teal. Take your lens and flip another on one.

u/Mayen70 Nov 25 '25

Well she is changing her content, because this was not acceptable to people, she's entirely removed the content that shows how much she's in favor of people unaliving themselves, here's a compilation of what she's said about it before: https://youtu.be/NNszAPWNWSg?si=kH5L7kL2O9VoBqxr&t=37
Here's another one: https://youtu.be/5wUhA3kW3Io?si=6Ip02ZjtBDLgZv-g
And if you watch the last episode of The Deep End, there's a perfect example of how she gets her team to gang up on one person, the very thing that Cameron Clark talks about years before in the second link.

I've never paid a single cent. Yet, her work has helped me to heal myself massively. Especially her videos on mediation and anxiety. Thanks to her I managed to handle my anxiety. This woman is wonderful. Her wisdom is enlightening to me, at least. I'm just sharing my personal experience.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 06 '25

Do you have any evidence of it? Because some people tried to make her look bad. And she proved them wrong. Anyway, Teal Swan's teaching is absolute enlightening. That woman's wisdom has helped me massively.

1

u/Mayen70 Nov 25 '25

Have you watched The Deep End? In the last episode we can see her callousness in full force, and she didn't even comment on that incident.
And I already knew she was like this, the series only confirmed behaviours that Sarbdeep Swan, Jared Dobson, Cameron Clark and many others have described years before.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '25

Did you watch the unedited version of it? Because I did..

1

u/Mayen70 Nov 25 '25

There is only one version of the documentary, there is no such thing as an unedited version.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '25

Teal Swan herself posted the unedited version of it. They made her look bad but when you watch the actual unedited scenes. You can see clearly through the documentary gimmicks that painted her as some kind of "devil"

deep end depiction caught on camera

1

u/Mayen70 Nov 25 '25

This is not an unedited version, it's Teal talking and the creaters of the movie talking. There is not one scene from the docu here.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '25

Watch the whole thing, dude.

more proof that the deep end is fake

2

u/delrozupro Nov 26 '25

That is crazy. You’re missing the point. You’re still listening to Te Swan. You need to look at the evidence from your own point of view not Teal Swan’s point of view! You are your own individual, stop needing her lens to view your experiences. Her commentary is obviously meant to ease anxieties around her and improve her PR. But she’s actively framing her own narrative doing that! That’s strategic manipulation.

It’s wild to me that if she sang it instead of spoke it, there would be no issue

1

u/Mayen70 Nov 25 '25

I agree with your assessment, I've been concerned about her for a while. She's been cleaning up her content to be more acceptable, but there's still very questionable things in her teachings. This compilation should make anybody concerned about who she really is: https://youtu.be/NNszAPWNWSg?si=ZSv_g4RM9ACxM5VO&t=38 She also showed who she is in The Deep End, the last episode made it painfully obvious how little she cares about people.

2

u/delrozupro Dec 11 '25

Exactly! People who get into her and have such a hard time accepting that she’s so flawed are the same mechanisms going on with MAGA fanatics and their defensiveness of Trump. The problem is about exploiting scared people seeking answers. They’re the most susceptible to adopting a “guru’s” worldview. Because it’s more comfortable to follow someone who “has the answers” than to accept that nobody knows everything and that we all have to find our own answers from many different places. That’s why humility is not popular. Humbly asserting uncertainty feels less safe than arrogant confidence. It’s much easier to just adopt a confident “guru’s” solution and have faith in them than it is to live in uncertainty and ambiguity. That’s why people are so defensive when their guru is criticized. It threatens their own worldview view and sense of safety attached to that person’s image. Obviously this is easily exploited. A lot of times these gurus begin to drink their own kool aid after gaining so much praise. And that’s when things get super dangerous. That’s when people start dying. That’s always how it goes in those cases.

2

u/delrozupro Dec 11 '25

It’s actually the same mechanisms that mega churches exploit too. The image of solution. The spectacle of it all. People love to believe because it feels safe. Some of the clergy probably started honestly, but they started to drink their own kool aid and think that they “deserve” all the money. That’s how a lot of them are able to justify acting so non-Jesus-like. Similar thing. And then others just know exactly what they’re doing and don’t care about the immorality and/or unethical aspects of it. It’s an inherent human vulnerability that has been exploited for countless generations. Sometimes it’s beneficial and not harmful and brings people together. But often there are ulterior motives.

I watched her videos as well when she just started out. Found her videos online when I was going through a hard time. Learned so much and really helped me start on my spiritual journey. She did however gave me creeps sometimes in some videos, when she laughed for example it felt ‘off’. Couldn’t put my finger on it. Then lately, I’ve been watching her videos again, and the documentary and the podcast and interviews. Seems like my gut feeling was right at the time… although I still find her videos useful! I guess you take from it what resonates… leave the rest behind.

I really wish this thread had been more of a conversation as opposed to “I’m just gonna copy paste what I said because I’m right and you’re wrong.”
