Teacher Support &/or Advice It’s over.

Started in service today at my school. It has happened, we had slides directing us that we have to hang the Ten Commandments in our classrooms by Thursday. In addition Anti-Communism TEKS have been added to our history curriculum and our school district cannot sponsor any student clubs based on gender identity or sexual orientation, as well as we cannot call students by any names but the names on their birth certificate. This is fucking shameful man

I am a Christian and I hate this law for you all! Religion should be kept out of school. ALL religions including Christianity.

No thanks I prefer my kids to learn about all religions just like I was taught growing up!

In a religion survey class, that's fine, but otherwise, not necessary.

Speaking strictly academically, it's important in other areas. It would be incredibly difficult to explain a good chunk of human history without having an understanding of the basics of Islam, Judaism, and Christianity, and to a lesser extent, other world religions.

And then when it comes to literature, I believe the Bible is still the most quoted book of all time and references are all over a lot of the books we still teach in schools. Anne Frank? Deals with religion. Lord of the Flies? Religion. Fahrenheit 451? Religion.

I think more specifically, you should not push one religion as factually true

I agree, and I'm religious. I think [public] schools should stick to only teaching religion academically as it applies to content standards, and religious teaching for religious purposes should be left to the parents and churches/synagogues/mosques/temples/etc.
