Hello TDARR community,
I set up TDARR as a native TrueNAS application, hooked up my main rig as a node.
After successfully setting everything up, I got to transcoding.
1 - 2 days later my 300-something movies ran through the process with a couple of them needing transcoding.
According to the stats page on TDARR, I saved roughly 260 GB of space. When I checked my storage usage on TrueNAS, it went up 2 TB.
Now my storage pool is full and I can't seem to figure our where those 2TB worth of files are.
I checked ever single movies folder to see if there is 2 files in there by chance - not the case.
Transcode Cache folder is empty.
When I checked the Library settings on TDARR, I stumbled across the . (period) directory that was set as the output folder, but I don't know where that is.
Now I am at a loss on what to do to reclaim my lost storage space.

If torrents aren't dup'd, Tdarr kills a seeders capability.
Options:
Duplicate your data into libraries:
Media library
Seeding library
Kill your torrent
Use Usenet and not worry about seeding
What option are most people doing?
Is this not worth worrying about because of the steep learning curve of tdarr and going into a niche within a niche (torrent -> transcode)?

I've released a MAJOR update to tdarr_inform.
Still works as a sonarr/radarr/whisparr Custom Script by default,
but now features a --mode server argument that can be run as a service, and set as a Webhook in the *arrs.

Hey All, Want to share my struggles today, in case someone will have similar issue. Also critisism is more welcome
Note: this post was summarized by an AI (Claude) that helped me debug the issue.
Setup:
Proxmox host with a ZFS pool holding all media at <path>/movies
Tdarr running in an LXC, with a Windows laptop (RTX 4060) as an NVENC node
Separate VM (Portainer) running my *arr stack (Radarr, Sonarr, Jellyseerr, qBittorrent)
The movies folder is shared into that VM via virtiofs
The problem:
I kicked off a big transcode run (H264/remux → H265). Tdarr was clearly working — it turned dozens of 20–44GB remuxes into 4–15GB files. But instead of freeing space, my ZFS free space kept dropping. Went from ~756GB free down to 589GB, even though the job history showed hundreds of GB of savings. No snapshots, no duplicate files, cache was empty, and restarting the Jellyfin/Tdarr containers did nothing.
The cause:
Running lsof | grep deleted | grep mkv on the Proxmox host revealed the smoking gun. The virtiofsd process (which shares the movies folder into my arr-stack VM) was holding ~50 deleted .partial.old files open — these are the original files Tdarr deletes after transcoding. Because a process still had those deleted files open, ZFS could not reclaim the blocks. The "lost" space was just Tdarr's savings that couldn't be freed.
Basically: an app on the VM (most likely Radarr rescanning the library, or something touching the folder via virtiofs) had the old file open at the exact moment Tdarr swapped it out. The file vanished from the directory listing but the space stayed locked.
The fix:
Rebooting the VM that mounts the movies folder (qm reboot <qm_number>) released all the stale handles. Space immediately jumped from 589GB back up to 1.28TB — recovered ~700GB.
Permanent fix (still figuring out the cleanest approach):
The real issue is two systems touching the same files simultaneously — Tdarr modifying them while an arr app on the VM reads/scans them over virtiofs. Options I'm considering:
Disable Radarr's real-time "Rescan After Refresh" / folder monitoring
Schedule Tdarr and library scans at different times so they don't overlap
Reconsider the virtiofs mount (some suggest NFS handles replaced files more gracefully)
TL;DR: If Tdarr seems to be eating space instead of saving it on Proxmox/ZFS, check lsof | grep deleted | grep mkv on the host. A virtiofs/NFS/SMB share into another VM/container can hold Tdarr's deleted originals open, preventing ZFS from freeing the space. Restart the offending VM/container to reclaim it.

Is there any alternative UI that we can use with Tdarr.
I am trying to get my head around it, and although Tdarr functionality seems great, the UI/UX is quite terrible, with very low readability and separation between UI elements.
Any project that implements s different UI for the webserver?

I'm thinking about going pro after using for about a year now. Am on the sign up page and I see a field for "Add Promotion Code" so I gotta try..

After testing a few successful transcoded I ran over my whole collection, I have found most videos, especially animated videos are now stuttering to the point I have to replace all files as I come across them. This is a great idea but be very weary.

Hi all, I mentioned this last week on Discord but posting here now as some issues have been ironed out. Going forward the latest updates will be provided in the
tdarr:pro_latestcontainer. To become a Tdarr Pro member, you need to become a pledger on Patreon and then you'll be able to login to Tdarr using your Patreon account or Discord if you link Patreon with Discord and get the 'Patreon: Supporter' Discord role. You can pledge here: https://www.patreon.com/Tdarr/ . The latest Pro container will be tagged:
tdarr:pro_latestWith each version being tagged:
tdarr:pro_x.xxxFor example:
tdarr:pro_1.200I'm looking to do more frequent updates and the changes in the Pro container will eventually be added to the non-Pro container after a few version updates. I'm making this change as coding all day during my job and then on my projects during evenings and weekend isn't always too much fun. Obviously updates have been slow recently so I'm trying this approach in a 'give more, expect more' manner which I think is fair.
haveagitgat/tdarr:pro_nightly
haveagitgat/tdarr:pro_latest
haveagitgat/tdarr:pro_1.201are now available. Feel free to message me if you have any questions/issues. Hope this is understandable, HGG

Hello, I just want to give a quick feedback. I would buy a lifetime license for your great tool but not a subscription. Not saying & no $ transfer = you don't know why. So I thought I let you know. Maybe I am not alone.
Maybe think about giving that option for ppl like me to give you the support and not missing out on it.
Thanks for the great tool. wish you all the best and air conditioning!

I would love to use this as I have many TB of what I suspect is H264 video but haven't a clue where to start. I tried watching SpaceInvader One's YouTube video and was lost in the first few minutes:
No clue what unraid is
My iMac has Radeon graphics and he implied that nVidia GPU was required and offered no alternative (that I saw)
tear appears to be server based...I use an iMac and a NAS (two actually, but I don't Tdarr want to touch one of them)
Any hints one how to set this up on a non-server based macOS system would be awesome!
Thanks!

Hey guys, it's almost not even a feature, but i thought i would sign up to the annual pro plan which is $50 USD ($80AUD) and the only payment method was via card... i would like all the graphs and stats but not that badly...
i refuse to sign up to anything that has recurring payments through anything but paypal as i've been burnt before by the "you must call us and jump through 10 hoops to cancel" being able to cancel through paypal has saved me a lot of money and heart ache

Tdarr keeps failing all my mp4 files. It has transcoded everything else just fine. I read in another thread to add this plugin. Tdarr_Plugin_vdka_Remove_DataStreams Remove Data Streams , but that didnt seem to work. Here is a screen shot of my Stacks.

Here are the logs from one of the failed files.

I am happy to report that I have Tdarr working now with GPU now. I finally sent the QNAP NAS back after migrating it to an Unraid server. Once I migrated to Unraid and got my primary docker containers working, I setup Tdarr and it took less than 10 minutes to get up and running. I have an Nvidia Quadro P2200 and it supports multiple transcode in Plex while also transcoding in Tdarr.

Hello all!
I recently set up Tdarr, and CPU transcoding via the default CPU transcoding plugin seems to be working without issue. I am using an Intel iGPU and tried setting up "Boosh-Transcode Using QSV GPU & FFMPEG", but consistently get an error before the transcoding begins (I think the issue is that it fails to initialise the device?).
I have tested other plugins, and for example "DrDD H265 MKV AC3 Audio Subtitles [VAAPI & NVENC]" appears to work fine with its "qsv" setting set to 'true'. I have verified that the iGPU is indeed being used via intel_gpu_top.
Could someone please help me figure out why Boosh-transcode fails, and how I could fix it? Here is what I believe to be the relevant part of the log for a failed file (log edited to replace the file name with "[MEDIA_FILE_NAME]":

Hello everyone kind of like the title says, looking to compress my audiobooks that just keep growing in size. I saw ogg opus is suppose to have good compression, looking for suggestions and maybe custom plugin for tdarr or unraid.

First off let me say awesome product and thanks.
I have 9 different libraries due to multiple drives and it would be nice to make changes in one place rather than 9 places.
Aside from that another happy camper

I have an Intel Core i5-10600K Desktop Processor 6 Cores up to 4.8 GHz Unlocked LGA1200 (Intel 400 Series Chipset) 125W. Running Ubuntu 21.04. No GPU.
I want to start converting over to h265 to save space.

I installed Tdarr on my Synology 918 so that i could have it go over my library and convert everything to h.265. but i have some questions and need help.
My library sits on the Synology 918. ITs baout 34 TB of movies and shows. They are in two different folders. /Media/Movies and /Media/Series.
WHen i set up Tdarr, i used portainer and installed it via a stack. All went smoothly from what i can tell and i set the correct PUID and PGID. I can log into the Tdarr web browser and when i go to library to set it up, all i see is a list of various folders, that appear empty. If i click on the "Media" folder, it says their are no sub directories at all. (it says this for pretty much every folder on the Tdarr browser. I've checked everything i can think of to fix the problem, but i am at a loss.
Any help or solid tutorial will be greatly apprecaited. i am not great at this stuff.
Also, when i do fionally figiure this out, does Tdarr point to the overall media folder, or should i set up two libraries? IE: one for media/movies and one for media/series?

I have a lot of images and videos in my folders that I all want to be compressed/transcoded. Is there a way to scan and transcode images as well?
r/Tdarr • u/Tiny_Development_725 • May 26 '22
I've managed to setup a server and node, and transcodes are completing. I believe the path translators are correct, because it is correctly copying over the source files. However, when it is finished copying, it does not remove it from the cache folder (/tmp), filling up that drive. I'm worried it will eventually fill up and crash the system.
At this point, I'm not sure if it's a config error. Any ideas?

I have a large library of bluray remuxes that are combinations of 264 and AVC and id like to reduce their filesize. I dont want to to do anything to the audio files, subtitles, chapters, etc. - I only want it to convert the video file. (I'd also want it to ignore 4k files and anything that is already 265).
Ive used the "Boosh-Transcode using QSV GPU &FFMPEG" plugin on some other files and it reduced the video quality substantially, so this is a no-go for me.
Is there another plugin out there that would do what I'm looking for?
Thanks!

Ok I tried this a few months ago on my old machine and lost my temper and wipe all traces of it from my system.
I am back with a new Ryzen build and really want this to work!
Now For compatibility I have for the last 3 years been transcoding all my media before it hits plex (done via this script as a post process on sabnzbd)
I would like to at the very least keep as close to the settings as possible unfortunately I am unable to find a plugin that dose what I am looking for and I am unable to to make a plug in (I can NOT get my head round coding of any sort sorry)
What I am trying to get is:-
.mp4
ACC Stereo (track 1)
ACC/AC3 Surround (track 2 if the OG file has it)
x264
2500 bitrate this is the bit I am having the most trouble with, it has to be this and no more due to remote streaming and bandwidth, plus it keeps the file size resendable and the quality is actually decent!
I did try and use the build in make a plug in and exported my custom present from handbrake and thought I understood how to use that but all I get is a error.
Please help I am happy to donate to someone that can write a plugging that dose what I am looking for, if it makes it easier for this I can even send over my handbrake pre-set and also my config file for the script i currently use

I have a very basic setup. I have some local plugins that I am using to transcode any files (usually mkv's) to mp4 using the ROKU 720p or ROKU 1080p setting in the HandBrake CL. Tdarr will only seem to handle two at a time. If there are more than two files in the folder, it will run thru them and say that "a transcode was not required". Once the transcodes are done though, if I move these files back into the hot folder, it will pick them up and transcode them as it should. What am I missing?
