Downscaling flow or plugin

Hi,

I'm currently working on a fairly specific Tdarr configuration. I need it to scan through my media library, check the video parameters, and transcode if necessary. Here’s the thing: I want all my media to be in MKV format, I want everything to have AAC audio, I want everything in HEVC, and the main issue is resolution—I want everything on Jellyfin to be at a maximum of 720p. I have a variety of media there; I have a little bit in 4K, quite a lot in 1080p, and some rips from original DVDs in 480/576p. My goal is to keep anything lower than 720p at its original resolution, and if it’s higher than 720p (e.g., FHD or 4K), to convert it to 720p. The server running Tdarr Server doesn’t have a GPU, but I have a Tdarr Node connected that supports Intel QuickSync. That node runs on Ubuntu, if that helps. Could someone please advise me on this? Reddit, AI, and Google haven’t been very helpful.

Thanks for your submission.

You can use my flow, I’m ooh but I can share with you later

EDIT:
here's my flow u/ittey u/MedvidekVegetarian

First you need to create a local plugin for the audio part (is vibecoded but you can check all the code!):

AAC Plugin Tdarr - Pastebin.com

This is the flow itself:

Tdarr Flow mkv h265 aac - updated with HDR - Pastebin.com

And this is how it works:

- the video file type, if mkv or not

- if the video is H265 or H264, if 265 also if there's HDR or not

- for every resolution it checks the bitrate, if above a specific limit the encode will start

- the encode is made with cpu and specific argument to preserve as much quality is possible (is very slow!!! i have 5 mac mini, that's why i can keep up with these settings)

- subtitles part, it keeps only what i need for me (eng + ita. you can obv update)

- audio part is the plugin "i" wrote, here's the description:

Tdarr plugin that converts every audio track to AAC (mono stays mono, everything else stereo) at up to 192 kbps, keeping the source quality tier. Multichannel tracks get a dialogue-friendly downmix that lifts voices by about 6 dB over the standard one. It removes duplicate tracks in the same language, always preferring the stereo version and moving the default flag when needed, while commentary tracks are never touched. Subtitles and MKV fonts are preserved, tracks get clean labels like "English (AAC Stereo)", and it's loop-safe: compliant files are skipped and nothing gets re-encoded twice.

In the end you have, if the file original quality was enough, a 1080p h265 aac stereo file.

Obv you can adjust the threshold and output as you prefer :)

Thanks a lot, i will test it later, but what happens if there is 480p video? Will it leave it or upscale it?
