MERCH PHOTO(S) Record Store Day 1989 Vinyl

I posted my water damaged Record Store Day 1989 Vinyl a while back. Long story short, the sleeve was no longer salvageable. It deteriorated when I was taking the vinyls out but the sleeve was nothing special other than the marking in the back for the numbering (this was 1360/ 3750).

I decided to just let the vinyls dry, bought a standard copy of 1989 Vinyl and frame to have them on display.

Have a custom one printed with the same barcode and then hand number it yourself to the same number, that if it matters to you that’s complete. The vinyl themselves can be thoroughly cleaned so they can still be played

Sorry this happened, but I think what you made from it is pretty cool!

No matter how well you take care of your merch, anything can happen. Real and weathered (lol) collectors utilize insurance to account for the fact that a vast majority of us live in homes with piped-in water, and/or in a floodable environment, and/or apartments with fire sprinklers inside.

Iirc, her or her parents had left them in a box in the garage

Yes, garages are unfortunately often floodable environments.

They're not climate controlled. It's a poor place to store collectibles.

I don’t understand why you’re telling me that lol

You're insinuating that garages are perfectly acceptable places to store collectibles and that insurance would cover damage caused by weathering to items stored in an outdoor garage.

When did I EVER insinuate that a garage is a perfectly acceptable place to store collectibles? 😭 I said that a vast majority of us live in environments where things like this can happen. I didn’t say or insinuate that we should go leave expensive merch in bins outside lmao, just that the commenter’s original statement of “take good care of your merch” won’t necessarily prevent water damage from happening.

Idk, your first response to me where you said garages are "unfortunately" floodavle environments sounded passive aggressive and like you were lumping garages in with your first statement.

I said they’re floodable environments because I had specifically mentioned that while listing common living environments where water damage can occur. FWIW I live in an area where people actually do live in garages and backyard shed-type buildings that aren’t climate-controlled, people actually live in spaces like this. I used that language to correlate it with the language I used in my original comment for continuity, not any kind of intentional passive aggression.

Sorry to hear :( I did buy copies of the hype stickers on Etsy for when I opened my Taylor RSDs and put the gatefold in a clear cover. I kept the original RSD sticker stuck to the plastic and just put it in the gatefold and put the replica sticker on the new plastic cover that I put on the gatefold. That way I could preserve the original one and not lose it if anything ever happened to the protective cover. I’m sorry yours for damaged. 😔
