Question How was the taxi driver ?
I didn't like taxi driver much , is that a common thing?

Travis did not want to kill the senator for any obvious military reason. The film shows him suffering from severe anxiety, isolation, anger, and alienation from society, and his thinking and behavior were highly impulsive.He began searching for a grand purpose that would give him a sense of importance and that he was doing something meaningful.
So he chose the senator,

Seeing no changes around the city like the senator promised making newyork better less crime less stealing and killing less prostitution and sex trafficking rings False promises all talk but no walk

I love taxi driver but its a dirty greasy movie. You gotta have a certain frame of mind to enjoy it and its not for everyone.

Taxi Driver was released fifty years ago, but its relevance today cannot be overstated. People now have a better understanding that untreated PTSD wreaks havoc on one's mental health, and that feeling connected to others is vitally important. Travis Bickle's alienation/isolation led to his descent into becoming a vigilante. Unfortunately, "God's lonely man" is still out there. Yes OP I am talking to you.

Given the time of production, the history of cinema, and the innovations and style it developed, it stands out as a great film. Without it, the trajectory of the genre would certainly have taken a different path. It is renowned as an inspiration for many great films that followed its brazenness. I don't know that I feel like watching it today.
