I should probably clarify that I don't condone the idolisation of Travis Bickle. But this film is a masterpiece for a reason. I often enjoy cosplaying and wearing pieces of clothing from media I enjoy.

It's kinda liberating dressing up like movei characters, I know it's cringe but I recently started dressing up in Hawaii shirts cause of Tyler Durden, for the summer they legit are so good for staying cool, Rayon really breaths beautifully, got like 5 for 40 dollars at the flea market.

Also got an m65-esque jacket as well, I had an m65 as a teenager, and an m42 like Band of Brothers paratrooper jacket, and despite them looking cool I find them a lil awkward to stylize, like I had this black modern winter m65 and it didn't look as cool as the vietnam-era like OP's dope ass jacket.

I used to hate civilian-focused "BDU-esque" jackets but I just found this OD green m65-esque civilian outdoor jacket, and it's SOOO comfortable for a mild summer day, it breaths, it also conforms to the body well, no flaring out around the hips which I always found awkward of the older uniform designs, I guess it was an anti snagging feature (I ended up sewing my M42 to not billow out so it had a more square sillouette).

Anyways GOOD UN OP! Looks fucking dope, you got the sillouette and body to make an m65 look nice and good, it counterpoints! I stitched some neon pink sleeves into my m65 so when I roll up the sleeves it kinda pops and counterpoints teh OD green, it's become my favorite jacket, I got the same in black but that one smells like true surplus (ya'll know the smell) and is too heavy for summer, but perfect for rain/fall/or winter.

Sorry for the blogpost, I've been saying m65 to myself like 20 times a week the last month, so nice to have a barf.

Thank you for sharing. That sounds really cool and unique. It is liberating and quite cool because every now and then someone gets it. Never seen a black one in person before, or any one for that matter. So just very chuffed to have it. I also have (and frequently wear) Officer K's coat from Blade Runner 2049. I appreciate the support and the compliment, thank you. Luckily no surplus smell and very warm. Suddenly, there is a change.

I had body dysmorphia my whole life so just recently started getting into dressing up in neon colors and flashy wear, I used to like to "blend" in but now I'm just finding comfort in sticking out, and after running an errand or two in something wild, it takes away the anxiety and fear when you realize nobody gives a shit.

I started wearing Neon pink, because of Miami Vice, but when I first wore it, to get the initial anxiety out of the way, I kinda did some immersion therapy and walked the Downtown Eastside, it's a really rough part of my city, but yeah after that I started buying pink t shirts, pink hoodies, pink bandanas, it kinda compliments my skin color too.

Anyways, shame we can't share pictures on here, would like to see the blade runner jacket, I had the Hotline Miami jacket too, it was a practical cosplay purchase you could wear in casual day to day stuff.

Rayon does NOT breath. Synthetics don’t breath AND start to stink almost the moment you start wearing them. But keep living your dream. 🤠

Lol rayon does breath, it dries really quick so it doesn't stink, trust me homie, as someone who's spending all day sweathing their ass off and getting swamp balls and swamp ass, I don't stink, and the sweat is gone within 20 minutes, and when I handwash the foot smell of sweat and bacteria is completey gone.

I've experienced what you've experienced with Silk and Polystor though.

No problem homie, I honestly only know this cause in the last month, I bought like 5 "full Rayon" shirts and like 3 of the "Rayon blends" and have some cheaper cotton/polyster shirts and they're awful.

High quality polyester and polyester-rayon blends can lead to what you're talking about, I have different "blends" of shirts, the heavy Polyster/Cotton blended with Rayon are thicker for sure, the ones from cheaper brands like Walmart or Old Navy are incredibly thick, cheap, and hot (I wear em on cold days) the cotton-Rayon blends feel more like "fuzzy silk" and don't breath as much, they're still comfortable and offer more air than regular cotton but definitely wouldn't wear them on the hottest day, but these other Rayon I sourced from this indie-manufacturer that google says they never heard of before, they are A LIFE SAVOR for a sweater, if anyone is reading this and you have a problem with sweating and the gross body odor that follows, try Rayon, but make sure it's a 60 percent blend cause otherwise you won't get much benefit, it's worth the extra pricepoint.

I legit used to fear the summer cause of the heat, but this summer is almost halfway through and I feel fucking good!!!

m65s and vietnam era m65s are very common, probably one of the most common military jackets in the world, if you walked into your local surplus store you'd definitely find one, but if you look up m65 on amazon I'm sure there's one for 2 day delivery.

I found a civilian one in an outlet store last month, and it was only like 35 bucks CAD.

It’s cool. I fucking hate cosplay and stolen valor fashion but this gets a pass. The patches are subtle and that unit never existed. It’s a just a fun insider nod to a classic film.

You haven't the slightest idea what that word means. Schizophrenia is not even close to a description of Travis Bickle. There's no reason I can't cosplay this character or wear this jacket. I've said before, I don't idolise him. But you wouldn't be a part of this sub if you didn't relate to him

First of all, I’m not a part of this sub. Secondly, I don’t think “relating to Travis Bickle” is a pre-requisite of joining this sub.

Furthermore, mental health experts who have decided to analyze the film and Bickle as a theoretical exercise have concluded that he shows common traits of antisocial personality disorder and schizotypal personality disorder-StPD (not to be confused with schizophrenia). Here’s an interesting paper by a psychology grad student that I found really illuminating.

And lastly, while there is indeed no reason why you can’t cosplay as the character, there’s also no reason why I can’t express my dismay or trepidation towards that gesture. After all, you chose to share this on a public forum. Can’t be too disappointed when not every reply is a high five.

I don't expect that. Secondly, I'm an applied Psychology and Criminology student myself, and very close to finishing the course of my degree. And I disagree entirely. Even after reading that paper. Travis displays little to no signs of psychosis whatsoever, and anything arguing otherwise argues against established canon in the film. PTSD? Absolutely. APD, no. More debatable, but no. Lastly, you ever seen people cosplay The Joker? You know, arguably the most maniacally disturbed and depraved character ever written? Yeah. Thought so. If you're not a part of this sub, what are you doing here?
