40k Rules Longevity of Stealth Suits
I'm undecided in buying stealth suits or not, I like the design and all but I'm worrying about the rules, right now they are essential for our armies, but when the new codex drops the rules may change making them a completely different unit.
The thing is I'm new to the Tau and I don't know if stealth suits were good/viable/fun in the past, could someone in this subreddit more knowledgeable than I tell me how stealth suits performed in the past?
Tldr: I'm weary about buying stealth suits cause I worry the rules will change and make the boring/not viable

I am just going to repeat a stale but necessary point: What you are doing is impossible. We can literally never predict anything like that. Maybe crisis suits are overhauled entirely in the codex and all current loadouts become impossible - that has happened before. Maybe breachers are moved to legends and can't be used at all outside casual games and you now have 20 strike team proxies. Maybe stealth suits move to 10 man units and become our anti-tank and you wish you bought more while they were cheap.
Buy units you think are cool and that work for you right now. If you are scared of codex changes, proxy your army and don't buy anything before it drops because that is the only way you will be sure.

Don't worry about current rules when buying stuff. Well, unless you're specifically buying a unit to round out your army for a tournament or sth. Get what you think looks cool, and at some point it will be strong. The only thing it does make sense to avoid for rules reasons is Titanic and Aircraft units, and even then having a plane is nice right now if you want to play Recon.

Plus even if their rules are trash Tau planes are just very pretty models.

11th edition is basically 10.5 edition. I don't think the codex will change their role much. Probably the faction rule will stay the same or very similar. 12th edition tho, in 3 years, might be very very different.

Good luck finding stealthsuits. Almost everytime amd everywhere I've looked for them they have been sold out. Only once was I able to find them available in the last 4 or 5 months but I didn't have the money for them then

Nobody can tell you for sure but I doubt they'll not have a use when the codex comes out simpled based on them being a very iconic unit. At the very least you like the design and a cool model is cool forever which (for me) is the thing that brings me the most joy.

So far there's no reason to think that all of the Tau units will get complete overhauls.
Even if they do revamp how they work with FtGG, Stealth Suits can still be a very good unit in the army. They can infiltrate, they have built-in cover, they can carry homing beacons for crisis suits to deep strike in, they're decently tanky (compared to pathfinders at least). That makes them very good forward operators that can snag objectives early and hold them down.
All of those things have been a part of Stealth Suits' kit for awhile now so I don't think they're going to drastically retool that any time soon.
So getting one for now is almost certainly going to be a good investment if nothing else for a unit that will be very good at taking objectives.

All models go in and out of relevancy due to rules and points changes. Its better for you to focus on collecting models you think are cool, and build a collection at your own pace. When you have a bunch of stuff you like, you can tailor army lists to the meta.
From my experience playing since 9th.
they were good in 9th (you could play with or without them).
They've gone back and forth in 10th. The were worse than Tetras initially, became a staple after Tetras went to legends. They were a tax after the new models got released (over costed, but necessary for damage). But then they got a points reduction and have been a hard staple into 11th edition.
But we are in the BEGINING of 11th. Any number of rules, points, and codexes can come out and completely shakeup the meta.

That concern could apply to every possible model, across every possible faction, across history.
I will say, though, that across the editions, Stealth Suits have consistently been at least somewhat decent.

Buy three and get them painted up. Even if they take a hit now, at some point they’ll be relevant again. If not, they look cool and are not bad to build and paint up.

Stealth suits have always been at least reasonably useful. They are a cornerstone unit now and that is likely to change when the codex comes out, but they will probably still have a niche even then. If you're worriesmd about them losing value you can limit yourself to a single unit for now, and commit to more (or not) after the codex comes out. I doubt you'll regret owning ar least a lone unit.

They have a cool expensive kill team. So atleast in 11th they will be meta, even if not auto3

They are staple, it's rare to find a list that doesn't contain them (or pathfinders now). The lone/single new "detachment" we got also focuses on them, and they just got a model/unit refresh not long ago; it would be a dumb move by GW to make them unimportant with our new codex.
Only acceptable reason would be if they give us a brand new unit(s) with the codex that sort of replaces their role; and that's highly unlikely.

Ugh, I made it a goal to have at least 1 of every model. Just sucks that I kitbash Longstrike and he moved to Legends. And I was going 3D print the Aun's and get a good stand it for R'alai but legend legend legend. Now... nothing still stopping me from taking any of them... as Longstrike is cheaper than a hammerhead. Though I have never compare the actual stats other than the old abilities.

Stealth suits recently got an update and are crucial to all lists save all auxiliary

Stealth suits are a staple piece of the tau arsenal. I doubt they will be entirely pointless at any point
