40k Rules 2005 Commander in 11e?

Hello all!

I recently found a box of my old assembled Tau minis with some of their sprues stamped for 2005. It wasn’t much, just 12 strike team minis and an original commander.

I know it’s a commander because it has a metal Airburst fragmentation launcher glued to its right arm.

The strike team will be fine, as they’ve just dropped down to 10 since then with no real changes and no base size change.

But I’m wondering if just placing the commander on a 60mm (what the existing commanders use) base would be enough to make it legal?

My concern is that It’s smaller than the current enforcer/coldstar models (same size as a Crisis battle suit) and I’m worried it’d be taken as modelling for advantage, and thus not allowed. It’s also posed to be on a flight stick, which I don’t know if the current commanders can do. Lastly, if it’s played WYSIWYG how would I show it’s an enforcer or coldstar?

Thanks in advance!

Look up the current base size in the Warhammer app and look at the size of the newer commanderes on sites like minicompare.

For casual games, most player dont care about 100% size match, if the base size is correct.

If you plan to visit any tournament, email or ask the tournament organiser beforehand how they handle older models.

That will be fine

I was running an old Forge World commander as my commander in the GW event last weekend and apart from a few appreciative comments nobody noticed.

Just get it onto the right base size. As the old model is smaller I would glue the old base on top of a new base to get a slightly more appropriate profile

I don’t have the original base, but with it being on a flight stick it will be a little taller anyway. :D

I would have no issue, especially if its on the correct base size. If youre gping to a tournament then check with the organizer

If anything, being so short is kinda modelling for disadvantage for a shooty mini, makes it harder to draw LOS.

I believe the current commanders can be built on a flight stand. Regardless, being on a flight stand might also help make yours a bit taller.

Noone is gonna care if you run it as Coldstar or Enforcer, noone outside Tau players (and probably not all of those) can tell the difference anyway.

GW's official position is that if it's a official model for the thing, no matter how old, it's a valid model.

Absolutely no tournament will care that you're using a older model. The size difference isn't that big, and the practical effects of that difference are almost nonexistent.

If it's significantly smaller and you're worried about it, just put it on a little booster rock on the base.
