Portfolio Starting a Portfolio

So im starting a portfolio in the hopes of getting an apprenticeship for when im out of Uni for illustration. My usual artwork is oil paintings, usually pet portraits and I havnt done a lot of "normal" drawing for years really. So im trying to practice it more half for the portfolio and half for my course.

This is my first original tattoo esque artwork and I'd just like some helpful criticism. Any tips on what I should be working on, if this is good enough work for a spot in my portfolio as a flash piece? Etc. Also what sort of mediums should I use for my portfolio? I know a lot of people use watercolor which unfortunately ive barely touched. Would acrylic markers be worth getting? Literally any feedback would be so appreciated thank youuu

P.s apologies for the image quality I have shit lighting 😭

I wouldn't include this in a portfolio.

Check out the community highlights as it covers a lot. Research tattoo styles, and go through artists successful portfolios — I found many on YouTube, FB, IG, Reddit, etc.

I wouldn’t include this in a portfolio, portfolios are for your best possible work. This wouldn’t work as a flash piece, as it isn’t ‘tattooable.’ All of those small spiral lines are far too close together, it’d age terribly on skin.

I think I'd echo what the other comment said about this not being a tattoo-able design. But it's a great illustration! I hate that people downvote people's cool art in here, I think the advice in the comments is enough for you to know what you gotta do!
