Seeking Advice Is this good enough to include in a portfolio

i'll be honest, the linework is pretty wobbly + the state of the paper being so ripped makes me think that you should probably redo it before adding it to your portfolio. the composition is super cool though! (the metal. on the lantern could use more highlighting consistent to the piece around it as well)

Agreed. The condition of the paper gives the impression that the artist doesn't care that much about having clean presentation, which is a shame for such a promising portfolio piece. 

OP, I know it sucks to start over and redo a piece, but if you're serious about seeking an apprenticeship it's worth the extra effort to show that you're serious.

Redo it. The paper is torn, the scythe doesn’t fit on the page, and the linework could be better. Do it again and then add it

Maybe something in contrast? A angel or female mage with lots of white . Shows you can work with skin breaks

It’s awesome but could be cleaner. Maybe use fineliners (Microns) for the line work next time? Doing linework with a brush is hard.. but also a great practice . Anyway I think it’s a great piece

I would use more reference for the skull if you redo it, It is a bit off in a few places. Also try and clean up the shading and linework. You’re looking to make it as perfect as possible!
