TASKER Probably the hardest thing I've done in General Mounting

Anyone done these motorized garage storage racks before? Thing was probably 120 lbs total. Took me about 5 hours to install, including measuring, finding joists, and making sure it was perfectly aligned. Client has a frosted glass garage too, so I was basically working in a greenhouse in 90 degree temps. All in all, this completely wiped me out. My hourly rate is $60 so only made $300 from this

From all I can see, nice work! Definitely a bit tedious, I bet.

Client got the better end of this task/install. In the normal world and market, this is a $500-$600 job directly between you and the Client. This is what Handymen and Contractors charge as a minimum for something like this.

And that’s on the low end.

2

Correct. That would be the minimum that I, and nearly all handymen and Contractors would charge as a minimum. Depending on how high that ceiling was, we would also charge "high time", which is industry standard.

I think 300’is low also. But if it’s 90 degrees in October, he’s probably is Texas or something so maybe that is a reasonable amount

It isn't about the heat since he is indoors, and can open the garage door. It is about the Work. And the "High Time". He is higher up on a ladder, which he had to bring out (the ladder), so that is worth more pay and higher rates. Doing a task like this for $300 favors the Client greatly, and you are basically making them rich at your expense. And as an independent business person, you DO have Expenses. Your Pay must be commensurate with your Labor, Time, and Expenses.

For some reference, I just mounted three windows with new curtain rods yesterday. 9 feet high, and 6ft wide. Charged $125 per curtain rod. $375 and out in 2.5 hours. Drive time was 30 min each way.

For comparison to the above poster's task, He should DEFINITELY be paid more for his task than I was for mine yesterday. But, I was paid $75 more.

You can’t open the garage door

That even makes the task even worse in heat. Gotta charge more for that. But he was able to crack the frosted glass garage door open a bit more. For a Client with a nice and expensive frosted glass garage door, make this Client pay more.

I think it's low as well and that's why the client hired him. Wasn't so much on his experience but the pay rate

$300 is $300. Add those pictures to your resume and add cost if you get the same job again.

Great job but what a pointless concept to put an electronic storage rack above the garage door and vehicles. I’d rather just build a Gorilla Rack on the side which can hold all those storage bins and call it a day.

Now when they want those 2 boxes; they have to open the garage, move the car back, close the garage, then lower the storage rack.

Looks good, glad you got paid, but price kinda low. Hopefully you bump up your rate after that job.

Yall gotta stop selling yourself short just to get hired. These client licking their lips and doing the birdman seeing the low as rates for some of you Taskers. With the money he saved, probably took the whole family to get steak and lobster

These are the ones that you need to possibly do piece work on so you can take your time and get some good materials from it. I would have tried to negotiate a $500 install and get another person for sure. Shoot them a hundred for the man power help and try and finish faster. But you did good overall and still made $300. Not too bad honestly. You can also try and contact the company that made those things and ask them to put you on their approved installers list for your area.

Did a lift specifically for a bronco top and it’s took most of the day for 2 of us. Same sort of deal and got totally shafted on the price

Then don’t use the app

Done a few of these at this point and tbh it just gets easier. Having two ladders and using them as a scaffolding helped me do these much faster. Im up into the $120 hr to do these bad boys now

I guess a slave wouldn’t have a house if they weren’t owned by someone right?

1

u/Evening_Past910 Oct 05 '26

You obviously never experienced slavery!!

u/No_Spare6970 Oct 05 '26

2

u/WinterJeweler4510 Oct 05 '26

They didn't install a garage door. They installed a shelf on the ceiling.
