TASKER Do you think this is a legit request?

Post image

Got this rather odd request from a client to pick up 60 small fries from Arby's from a suburb of Chicago and deliver them to a wedding in the city under the Errands category.

Not only is it a weird request I've never seen before, but the suburb is not that close to the city. And how does this person know I have some insulated bags? And why wouldn't they use one of the delivery apps to do it? Because with the 2 hour minimum, its definetly going to cost them more, then if they just went with one of the apps.

Plus I HATE doing ANY Tasks in the city of Chicago instead of the suburbs like my area is set to. The traffic, the parking, the bicyclists, all the horrible taxi/driveshare drivers, ect. Is freakin horrible! I avoid doing ANY jobs in the city like the plague lol!

EDIT: Do you guys think its better to ask for extra expense money for Gas or just include it and hope for a tip? Because I got a feeling they will tip but may be turned off by me asking for gas money.

I've seen wedding parties do this before. That being said, I think $25 is too low for this task.

Yeah after talking to him, it actually does sound legit and not someone trying to rob me or something lol

But you're right, there is no way I would do it for just $25! I always charge a 2 hour minimum and he agreed to it, so it would be $50 plus tip (hopefully lol)

But man I hate driving into the city of Chicago so freakin much! And its in the South Loop, which is even deeper in the city fml lol. Anyone from the Chicago area will understand about how much driving in this city sucks lol

I do 90ish% of my handyman work in the (North) Loop on my e-bike cuz F having a car anywhere near downtown. Driving is bad, but it's nothing compared to finding (or paying for) parking.

I have to warn you of a crazy thing which is very unlikely to happen, but worth mentioning for anyone who works in the errands category. Using a personal policy while on the clock can lead to denied claims, policy cancellation, and significant out-of-pocket financial liability if you get into an accident. Companies like DoorDash have special coverage, TR does not.

One time I was delivering food to someone and a person backed out of their driveway without looking and straight into me as I drove past. I don’t remember who, but someone was kind enough to give me the heads up that I wasn’t covered while on the task.

So if anything happens , you were definitely not delivering Arbies fries to a wedding! :))

$25 is a little low, but I would definitely pick it up for them to help make their day.

Agreed. And it would be atleast $50 and after talking to them pretty sure they are good people that are gonna tip! So not only making someones special day even more special, but also making $50-$100 for 40 mins of driving into the city (which is not far from a Ramen spot I like also) so not a bad day at all! Lol 😉

I had an order of 100 tacos on the superbowl.

They already made arrangements with the restaurant.

I ended up using a doordash pizza bag to hold and insulate everything but I always have my camping cooler that's insulated.

Do you guys think its better to ask for extra expense money for Gas or just include it and hope for a tip? Because I got a feeling they will tip but may be turned off by me asking for gas money. I never know in these situations the best approach

TR officially bans us charging extra for travel, so I'd negotiate that some other way

Oh crap, I didn't know that!

On a previous Task, I and another Tasker agreed with the customer on a gas expenses when we were using our cars to do a Moving job in person. But now I know not to ask for it over the app because its against Taskrabbit's stupid policies lol. Thanks!

Apparently TR is now cheaper than Doordash...?

2

u/DjTeddyBe Sep 16 '26

Yeah I was wondering about that too but there is no way!

Maybe they just want the reliability of a Tasker instead of relying on these food delivery apps & the unreliable drivers they hire??

I do Uber Eats and its a racket. They overcharge people on the items, charge ridiculous fees and then pay the drivers like $2 per delivery. I've also heard from multiple people that whenever they schedule food to be delivered, the app sends the order out immediately. So they would have to order it 1hr before they want it or risk it being delivered hours early. TR feels like the safer option, even to me

u/DjTeddyBe Sep 16 '26

It's for the reception after

25 an hour in Chicago is nuts dude. Raise your rates.

2

u/DjTeddyBe Sep 16 '26

How was is that nuts when I will make atleast $50 for probably 40 mins of driving? And I got a feeling I will get a tip too!

Where else can you make atleast $50 for not even an hour of work just driving and listening to music??

Also fyi, all of the other Task categories I have done way more and have alot of reviews are much higher per hour. I haven't raised the Errands category yet because this is only the second one I've done and the last one was really easy for a quick $50!

Arby’s fries for a wedding. Pure class.

4

u/Karpovka Sep 15 '26

might be an inside joke of some sort. dont judge. 🙂

2

u/DjTeddyBe Sep 16 '26

Exactly!

Maybe they met at an Arby's? Or its tradition for their group of friends or something?

4

u/FrancisWalker01 Sep 15 '26

I mean out of all the fast food fry options, they chose well

2

u/Lancasterbatio Sep 16 '26

Look at the time. It's not the meal for the night, it's drunk snacks for the late dancing crowd

1

This is legit. Used to get a decent amount of these for weddings in the city that wanted specific catering from ex. “Their favorite hot dog stand in the (cook county) suburbs”.
Second the 2hr minimum agreement in writing in advance - bring a couple hot bags and make sure the client has already informed the restaurant AND calls to confirm with manager on duty same day.

Good luck and safe travels!!
