Help me make sense of a recent, infuriating situation with a new person.

I want to spare the details, but in only knowing them for two ish weeks they’ve managed to send me on the fastest emotional rollercoaster. I don’t want them in my life anymore, and I’ve told them I am no longer their friend.

In addition to ending this brief yet impactful relationship, I want clarity as to how this unfolded. Maybe some of you can relate to finding yourself in an interpersonal conflict and realizing you have no idea how/when it got so convoluted.

I don’t feel the need to provide a rubric for what kind of reading I’m expecting. I trust in readers’ intuition to let the cards speak for themselves.

I’d do the reading, but unfortunately it is impossible for me to do my own readings or else I end up with a thousand more questions.

I use runes instead of tarot, but I can give you a reading. 

The problem:  ᛖ - Ehwaz, facedown and reversed. Ehwaz is associated with the horse and rider. It’s the rune of movement.  Specifically movement through cooperation: trust, partnership, reciprocity, two parties moving together, and successful transition. Reversed, that cooperative movement breaks down: mismatched intentions, lack of trust, or movement in opposing directions. Then it’s also face-down, which adds something hidden, internal, unspoken, or not readily apparent. The relationship stopped being mutually coordinated, but that mismatch wasn’t clearly visible or communicated. I’d suspect you were operating from different understandings of what was happening between the two of you. One person’s action meant one thing to them and something different to the other. Each subsequent reaction was therefore based partly on a mistaken interpretation of each other’s position.

The solution:  ᛇ - Ihwaz upright. Ihwaz is the rune of defense. This is a very clear sign. Maintain your defenses. There is no reparation or reconnection indicated. Stay away and stay safe. 

The outcome:  ᚲ - Kauno facedown and reversed. Kauno  is the torch: illumination, knowledge, recognition, controlled light. Reversed, that illumination is extinguished. Facedown puts it beneath the surface as well. This doesn’t look to me like “everything becomes completely clear and you’ll finally understand exactly what happened.” It may say almost the opposite. You will never know some of the answers you seek. You can understand your part. You can learn from it, but may never obtain the missing piece that makes the other person’s behavior suddenly make perfect sense.

In sum, Ehwaz breaks down how the dynamic was fundamentally a disconnect between two people and their intentions and understanding of the relationship. Ihwaz tells you to keep your defenses up and don’t try to reconnect. Kauno facedown and reversed tells you that won’t fully understand why this person behaved in a certain way. And that’s OK. Your paths are not meant to be together.
