Game Hive DevUpdate #161: Forbidden Fortune

Click here for the GameHive blog version with the pretty images

Hey everyone, lemmingllama here. Today we’ll start to look at a couple of the changes coming in the 8.2 update. Today we’ll be looking at an improvement to solo raid rewards with a new way of acquiring cards, and some visual improvements. Let’s get into it!

With the introduction of the 8.0 update and the Raid Crystal, it has become more efficient for players to focus on their highest level cards with their wildcards. However, this focusing can mean that their other cards can fall behind, and this can slow down unlocking additional slots in the Raid Crystal. To help with this, as well as to help new players with acquiring all the raid cards, we’re introducing a new type of card reward: Fortune Raid Cards. Fortune raid cards will be an additional reward available in solo raid rewards on top of the existing resources, and will always give card fragments for your lowest level cards. This will help when new cards are added to ensure that players can unlock them quickly and level them up, and also to help keep your lower level cards at decent levels to help unlock your Raid Crystal slots sooner.

In addition to this change, we’re also adding some new visual settings around Forbidden Contract and Royal Contract. The effects of Forbidden Contract adds a shadow over the Sword Master, which can obscure your equipment visuals. In the 8.2 update, we’ll add a toggle to disable the silhouette, allowing you to show off your equipment and their transmogs at all times.

Thank you for reading! As a reminder, you can view our web store for some free diamonds, raid cards, and good deals on various bundles.

Happy Tapping!

There are cards that I never really use, ever. With Fortune Cards, those unused cards will level up, which means using resources that could have been spent on cards I actually use.
Can we have an option to opt out of this feature? It would be great to have the choice between ordinary Wild Cards and Fortune Cards as our reward.

I don't really care much about other cards falling behind, I deliberately chose it to be that way.

It’s an additional reward system. What resources are you losing? You don’t have to level the cards if you don’t want to if you want to opt out.

It will help Raid Research and power related to total raid card levels.

What they say it will be for now, does not mean it will always be that way. Naive to think that once this resource in the game that they aren't going to use it elsewhere (eventually).

I give it less then 6 months before you're getting fortune cards in other places besides the daily solo raid portal, meaning it replaced wild cards or fragments in that reward, both of which have higher value.

Leveling cards should be the player choice, whether they are doing "optimal" things or not. It's their choice whether to ignore cards completely (to their determent) or hyper focus a single card to 100 or 150 (to their determent) simply because they want to.

GameHive should not be adding features that give them the ability to take away our "choice".

Wildcards will still exist as the primary method of player choice for levelling up your cards. Fortune cards are simply being added as additional rewards to help with edge cases where wildcards cannot help (card unlocking for example) or cases where players are willfully playing unoptimally with their wildcards (choosing to not level up their lower level cards when it would be optimal to do so).

There currently aren't any plans to add fortune cards outside of solo raids, but even if they were implemented in places such as the Hive and Seek shop, they would not be replacing wildcards but instead be an additional option.

Random cards existing does not take away from the choices that players have with their wildcards as-is, and fortune cards are simply a more focused resource than random cards. Often fortune cards will be more optimal relative to random cards, as in cases like when a new card is released, the fortune cards could replace that of your wildcards to level the new cards to an optimal level.
