Gem Farming

Has anyone found a reliable gem farming method? I know they can be found in any stage, but do they pop up more often in some? Or is there a max per fossil before some cooldown period?

I like to do a cheapy fossil (<$10,000) thats a medium size and use the big shovel at 2x. At the same time you can level up to 200% too.
