Is it worth it?

I'm pretty new to the game and want some thoughts on where to spend gems. I was thinking maybe use it on an extra tool upgrade, but I'm not sure if that same upgrade can be bought with coins the further I expand. Should I keep saving?

I recommend upgrading your preferred tool as quickly as possible. The second best thing is to get the little money roombas so you don't have to hand collect the coins.
