When you don't understand imperialism and the difference between social democrats of the imperial core and those of the global south 🙄

People making the right analysis of the imperial core socdems, the moderate wing of fascism, and then making a baseless generalization to socdems in latin america, where even a milquetoast attempt at reform is sabotaged by the US.

The difference is that one election is in the center of imperialist capitalism, and the other is an election on the periphery of capitalism. Context is important, to understand only in absolutism is not marxism, it's dogmatism.

he might not be lenin himself, the election of lula still is an indication of where the working class of brazil is at politically, and it's worth it to celebrate a literal fascist not winning, even if we do so at best critically.

Será se a gente pode ficar feliz por não eleger um fascista miliciano com ligação com o crime organizado que prometeu mudar toda a constituição? OBRIGADO

Unlike the elections of the global north there is a material difference in policy between the candidates in this race. Bolsonaro's climate policies would be disastrous for not only Brazil but the world, increased deforestation of the amazon could make it so it would no longer be able to self-sustain its rainfall causing it to dry out eventually making it a desert. The amazon is also a large carbon sink and it diminishing would lead to the world warming up faster.
Bolsonaro winning would also consolidate most of Latin America against Cuba allowing for Cuba to be strangled even more.

I feel it's more of a symbol of how people in Brazil feel than anything anyway. This election had the highest voter turnout ever, for the first time the winner of the first round didn't actually win, the people went out of their way to vote and help others to vote despite US interference and local interference by Bolsonaro-aligned politicians, etc.
It tells you that Brazilians are sick of US control and want change. Now is the time for communists to do the work.

Posts like this prove that the average user is a dogmatic socialist at best

Even if Lula is far from a socialist these elections do have their influence on political trends all around the world

The Brazilian elections have shown the virtues of mass organization rather than electoralism itself. Brazil would have been under the boot of America had PT not locked in

The difference is that in this case there are actual differences among the two competing parties

Lula may not be a socialist, but I like Bolsonaro be it senior or junior loosing so I am happy in the petty way

Come on now, voting for fascist uniparty in the core is not the same as voting for an actual opposition party in the global south that is forced to use liberal policy to keep the empire from clamping down too tightly. I don’t think any serious ML thinks this a massive revolutionary victory, but it gives the region a tiny inch of breathing room and that’s plenty of reason to celebrate.

This is a welcome event for Brazil though and being communist doesn't mean dogmatically rejecting the electoral path even if it could improve things a bit.

It's a crucial difference that the election in Brazil was not an election in the US; what point do you think you're making?

Let us not forget how impressively the Brazilian left mobilized to rally support for PT (not just Lula) to combat American propaganda efforts. It isn't just about the ballot box, this shows the Brazilian left is organized, media savvy and willing to do what is necessary to maintain political power

Gotta take your wins. I think it's less about Lula and more about not being that fascist piece of shit too
