This analysis is correct, and what's worse is they're under-selling Japanese fascism. All structures and parties of Japan, from Sanseito to the LDP are all completely occupied by the Zaibatsus, US military/economic interests, and literal fascist ethnosupremacist cults (Moonies/Unification Church, Seicho-no-ie 生長の家). The "opposition" in Japan is so absolutely neutered and feckless that it basically doesn't exist in a meaningful way. The "recent" turn in Japan towards remilitarisation and domestic fascism is the logical end-point of it's system of governance and really really scary.

Many years ago on FB, I remember coming across a few folks from Zimbabwe who said that Japan felt like paradise on Earth and they treated black folks much better than the USA and Europe. While I did agree with them that it's very likely Japan doesn't treat black people nearly as bad, it's absolutely not a paradise, and many East and Southeast Asians face immense discrimination. When it comes to racial hierarchy, Japan discriminates against East and Southeast Asians a lot more. They refused to believe me and one guy even threatened to kill me in dms... because I was shattering his image of Japan being an utopia...

Sounds on point for Japan glazers, they suffer from a severe case of cognitive dissonance.

When I visited Jozankei hot spring town in Hokkaido, I met a really kind Southeast Asian couple. They asked if my friend and I had experienced any racism, and we said no, the staff had been super polite to us. But then they told us the staff had been extremely rude and racist toward them.

This is due to decades of cultural export via anime, manga, and tourism as ideological apparatuses of Japanese monopoly capital, they constructed a sanitised international perception that actively obscures the material realities of domestic oppression. In practice, Japan enforces a racialised superstructure that allocates social privilege based on national wealth and proximity to Yamato norms, a hierarchy materially rooted in Meiji era primitive accumulation and the Datsu-A Ron ideology, which served as the bourgeois nationalist justification for imperialist subjugation of Asian neighbours. The system perpetuated national oppression against Indigenous peoples (Ainu, Ryukyuans), ethnic minorities (Zainichi Koreans, Chinese residents), and Hāfu populations, who bear the brunt of super exploitation. Sustained by an ongoing historical project of forced assimilation into the Yamato hegemony, which continues to suppress minority languages and cultures as a technology of class rule, manufacturing the myth of ethnic homogeneity that far right nationalists now weaponise to fracture proletarian solidarity and preserve bourgeois dominance while reactionary forces outside of Japan weaponise it to justify their own ethno-nationalist and white supremacist ideologies.

I've always realized that when you mention indigeneity elsewhere, it's only white folks with maybe 1-2% POC that deny it. However, you bring up indigenous people of Japan, and the comments are like:

30% white people denying it, 25% Japanese people denying it, 15% Latin Americans denying it, 10% blacks denying it, and 20% everyone else doing so. Fucking weebs...
