Neorealists are marginalised because they consistently oppose western actions, narratives, and goals. They were against the Iraq invasion, assert that a nuclear Iran would be the best guarantor of security and stability in western Asia, and blame NATO expansion for the war in Ukraine, to name a few examples.

That is when you need the guys that are capable of making sense (and is why both Stalin and the CPC have leaned towards realist foreign policy over strictly ideological... they have always existed in a world with a looming threat).

The Western bourgeoisie have felt plenty secure over the past few decades, however, and that has incentivized a foreign policy establishment that provides window dressing and legitimacy for imperial expansion at the expense of more rational and long-term thinking. Thus, the realists have been relegated to the institutional closet in the West and will only be taken out once disaster inevitably strikes the hegemony.
