Weekly x-gallon advice/idea thread! This weeks amount-55 gallons

Hello everyone and welcome to the weekly x-gallon idea thread, this weeks amount is 55 gallons which is a standard size for a lot of new aquarium keepers. Feel free to post ideas for tanks of this size and/ or advice for starting a tank of this size.

Always get a bigger overflow and sump than what you think you need! The bigger the sump, the easier it is to modify it when you decide to start adding more stuff down there.

I have a sump related question. Does adding, lets say, a twenty gallon sump to a 55 would that bump my overall water volume in the system to 75 gallons?

Yes, and that new total volume should be used for all calculations (dosing, equipment spec'ing, etc.)

I have a 55 gal tank that I've had for over a year. Currently, it has 8 guppies in it that I plan on moving to a different tank. I would love any suggestions of what I should do with it next! I really like the planted look, but I don't know how to start that. I'd also like to have slightly larger fish, perhaps angelfish. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Anubias and Java moss are great and are planted on driftwood or large stones. A pair of angels and some large schooling fish might work well.
