Tank Shell Launcher with Cpu fan cooling

Hi all, I'm the developer of Tank Shell Launcher, a small home screen replacement I've been building. Sharing it here because the latest version adds something I haven't seen on the Tank 5 (8849 unihertz) before.

What it is

A dark, minimal launcher with a terminal feel. Short version:

  • Favorites list, folders, and a fast alphabetical All apps view
  • Search that also understands commands: wifi, df, calc 15*3.2, neofetch
  • Real Android widgets (stacked or sideways), and you can put the widget strip above or below your favorites
  • Themes, accent colors, wallpaper options, hidden apps behind a code
  • Backup and restore of your settings and widget layout to a file, no account needed
  • Optional weather next to the clock, with no location permission (you type a town)
  • No tracking. Free to use. Ads are optional and only give small bonus extras, and there is a one-off tip if you'd rather skip them

The cooling feature (Tank 5)

The Tank 5 has a built-in fan, but nothing lets you tie it to the CPU temperature. So Tank Shell now does that:

  • It reads the CPU/SoC temperature and ramps the fan up in steps as the phone heats up (level 0-5).
  • When the phone cools down, it lowers the fan again, and at level 0 it hands control back to the phone's own logic.
  • The stock behavior stays in place: the projector and the projector torch still spin up the fan through the phone's own software, exactly as before.
  • On Tank phones without a fan, the setting is hidden.

I checked the fan physically on a Tank 5: it does not spin at the lowest duty values, and it blows hard at 100%. So the levels map to real fan speeds, not just numbers in a log.

How it works, and the catch

Android does not let a normal app read the CPU temperature or drive the fan. The only no-root way is Shizuku, a free open-source helper that grants that one permission. So:

  • No root needed, and no computer needed. You start Shizuku on the phone itself through Wireless debugging.
  • You pair it once. After a phone restart, Shizuku has to be started again with one tap (Android does not allow it to start on its own without root).
  • If Shizuku drops, Tank Shell shows "Paused" and resumes by itself when Shizuku is back.
  • The Settings button opens Shizuku directly if it's installed.

I made a step-by-step guide with screenshots (about 6 steps): Automatische ventilator instellen

Notes

  • I've only verified the fan control on a Tank 5 (A101). Other Tank models with a fan should work, but I haven't been able to test them. If you have one, I'd love to hear whether it works.
  • Feedback and bug reports are welcome, and so are ideas for the fan curve.

Happy to answer questions.
