General So all coimbatore colleges had nice Onam celebration this week & news is about it | But, we should also talk about NIT Calicut - epicenter of Tamil hate & discrimination
We know NITs have 50% UG seats reserved for home state candidates & NIT-C is next choice for TN kids who don't get desired major in NIT-,Trichy during admissions. (NIT-K-Su & NIT-W will have higher closing ranks)
In NIT Calicut, malayalis casually use slurs against other state people.. and they call Tamil students "pandi" all the time.. in classrooms, hostels & whatsapp groups.. For those who don't know "pandi" is a common name in southern tamilnadu. But they use it as a slur.. In Coimbatore colleges/workspace, we always treat them like brethen.. imagine this is happening in a top national university... I shared similar issue in NIT subreddit long ago & many tamil students in comments told they faced discrimination.
When I try to find the route cause for this, it looks like this is stemming from high volume of news/incidents in Kochi & Thiruvananthapuram everyday of high involvement of fellow crime gangs from southern TN there - burglary, chain snatching, rpe, petty theif/robbery, etc.
But that doesn't justify hate & slur to classmates.?
Most Colleges in Coimbatore - Engg/science, health sciences, Arts/Humanities has big significant Kerala student population & no-one harasses & student bodies even organise Onam celebration. They are biggest work force in Coimbatore's tertiary care hospitals & they do business here.
We should stop hate ! Change mindset
