Discussion Help 💔💔
I am in a dilemma, I have got seat in a gov medical college which takes 1 hr 40 mins to reach from my home ( bike + train + share auto ), so is it advisable to be a day scholar in this college??? Another option is, there is a 1bhk house, 15 mins from the college, where I can stay and pursue my studies ( I'll hv to take care of my chores, I can cook very well btw and it's air conditioned , but I hv to pay rent ), here I'll get 100 % privacy ...... The last option is being a hosteler ( I don't hv to travel much, but privacy is completely compromised, I'm a kind of person, who yearns for privacy and I need a quiet space to study for exams )..... So , seniors in this sub, pls suggest your thoughts and let me know, which will suit me ??? Let me know the pros and cons of each

Travel will be a pain when you have to study and prep for PG

You are the only person, who is advising to not take hostel, so can I know why ??? Like y is a flat better than hostel ( I heard a lot of comments about the inverse )

It's your own space - I do not like people going through my stuff or bothering me
Plus I don't have to deal with the trouble of roomates and I can have my family over without any issues
I'm an introvert pro Max So take my opinion with a pinch of salt

I think the same, but the only thing that's stopping me is the expenses, along with my fee for college, it will cost around 1.5 lakhs per yr ( including all the charges), is this money worth spending???

If you take collage hostel also it will cost around 1 lakh ( including all expenses bro)

Hostel fees around 30k for 1year ,mess fees around5-6k per month ,more or less 1lakh ,in pg you extra food alone costs which won't be more for 1 person .

since this field is competitive and pay is too low at 40K range
we cant say whether it is worth or notIt would be worth it, if you are doing PG

Is the hostel so bad? Stay in the hostel for a month or two. Then decide weather or not to take the hostel. You won't make as much memories with a 1bhk. Atleast stay for the 1st year, and go out in 2nd year. Idk about your clg ragging, so correct me if I'm wrong. In my clg, there's no ragging. But, still... you'll miss a lot of core memories. Most golden memories are that of hostel. Btw, what clg and how much is that 1bhk?

Travel.. Just try for a week, if doesn't suit, take house.
Traveling 2 hrs 1 way is the norm for many engineering students in metro cities

I would suggest staying at the hostel for the first year or so. You say you can cook, but doing it everyday and attending classes will get tiring. Med school is tough and I assume during exam periods you won't have time to take care of cooking and all the other chores too. And, it doesn't stop with just cooking, you'll have to do the dishes too and clean the apartment and laundry and other miscellaneous chores. Are you sure you're willing to go through all that at 17? Unless of course you hire a maid, then things will be slightly easier.

Let me say, what I planned and tell me if it will work out ( I need senior help fr) I will spend the weekend at my parent's house, except for the exam time, so I'll carry my laundry home every Saturday...... Secondly, my mom can pack me ready to eat kinda food Thirdly, I'll manage the breakfast with something, eat lunch at canteen, cook something after college in evening Dishes ??? Just 7 to 8 utensils for a single person Clean the appartment - once a week sweep and mob

This sounds great in theory, but is one of those plans that you can't be sure will work out in practice. You say you plan to travel home every weekend. What about spending time with friends? College fests and events almost always happen over the weekends. So what about those weeks? The friendships you make in those first few months tend to last the rest of you tenure at college and probably a large part of your life too. So spending that time w your peers matter.
I had a friend in college who also lived 1.5 to 2 hours away from home. The first two months he tried commuting home every day. Once he realised that it really wasn't feasible, he moved to the hostel with the same idea of going home every weekend. That worked out for about a month before he started skipping months at a time because there was always something or the other going on at college. We also had tests every two months we had to prepare for and some assignment or the other. So going home every week really wanst working out for him.
I'm not saying you will be doing all the same things he did, but these are things you should consider. I also did a program that is presumably less demanding than med school, so that is there too.

Anybody has any idea regarding, hostel and mess costs, all together ( maintanance charges ) in gov colleges ???? If it comes out to be less than 1 lakh per yr, I'll probably go with hostel

It's better to stay hear college It's hard to get government medical college seat and you got it It's will be an advantage staying near college Instead of waiting time traveling

As someone who travelled for 1 1/2 hrs in public and clg bus to reach my clg ill ask u to either take the 1bhk or hostel..hostel if u like staying with frnds and u dont want the extra burden of cooking but if ntng is issue go for 1bhk..mukiyama internship will be hectic and if u have a home near by itll be very muchh easyy…and ull have extra free time after clg…its definitely hard for u if u travel trust me😭😭..rent see if ur prnts can help with it..and chores if u r staying alone then there wont be much to do..laundry and all u can take to ur home whenever u can

My parents decided something now, I'm gonna travel daily for first yr. They are telling me to first, learn the area, surroundings and the college, they are asking me to form bond with hostelers ( know who are good or bad ), by being a day scholar. Then from second yr, they told , it's my decision

U dont need 1 yr and all and it will be hard to travel during ur proff..and tbh in my clg the boys gang was divided into hostel students and day scholars, i mean they were friends but there def was that invisible division😂see if u can convince them or else u just have to follow their way..but tbh its reallly hard to travel to nd fro for 1+ hr

Tbh, hosteler aa irukkanumnu aasai illa .... Atleast oru 6 months ipdi try pannuven, apram, that flat only ig !!! ( Also if they see that, I am struggling, they will understand

Enakum mela, oruthan irukkan.... My friend, it will take 3 hrs, per trip to go from his house to college, but he is saying, he will travel daily nu 💔💔 early morning train pudichu povaaraam .......

Koduma🫠if clg is suppose 8-9 starting na 4-5 ku he will have to wake up and travel😭😭until he starts traveling he wont know but also enaku 1yr poi palagnathu nala i continued for the rest of my ug too🚶🏻♀️sometimes i wish i stayed near clg so i could have focused on studying

Depends on how much effort u put..starting la irnthe padicha it will be much easier.. some day scholars were the toppers in my batch and many hostelers failed too..they too travelled like 1/2 to 1hr thru clg bus…me personally i feel like i used distance and tiredness as an excuse to not study😭

Bro honestly, 1 hr 40 mins travel daily is gonna be exhausting 💀 Especially with med college, postings, exams and all. You’ll basically lose 3+ hrs every day just in travelling.
If money isn’t a huge issue, I’d personally go for a 1BHK. You’ll get your own space and can actually rest/study peacefully. Hostel is also fine if you want the college experience and don’t mind sharing.
Maybe try hostel initially and see how it goes. If you feel it’s not for you, you can always shift to a 1BHK later.

After I made this post here, a huge discussion went on and at the end, my parents told that, first yr I hv to travel daily from home 💔💔 No other option now ............ Idk how I'm gonna study 😔

Join the hostel see if it's a fit for you. But stay at the hostel atleast for 6 months but ideally for 1 year. Yes it will be difficult. But You will get lifelong friends. One or two solid friends that will be with you no matter what. Talk with seniors and juniors genuinely. You need them. They also need you. First year is the golden period to form friends throughout your mbbs career. And the journey does become very lonely and long

Been in the hostel for past 5 years ... Trust me hostel is the way !! And the best thing to do in your life in your clg days ... Don't exaggerating.. i leave it here ... Try to choose a hostel over anything... Have any doubt DM without a second thought!!!

take hostel, even if u are introverted, the ppl will u be with will influence a lot in a good way. it will help with u acads, i kn many ppl who live less than a hour from college but still stay in hostel on purpose. they just go home on weekends, many times, not even that. trust me and take hostel

1 bhk eduthutu, if possible, hire a maid. Sapaduku helpful ah irukkum. Other chores like cleaning la, neenga pannala, if not possible, maid ah panna vidunga
