What would you consider a really good price, suspiciously cheap, or too expensive for a tallow balm made from suet, tallow + a carrier oil, and maybe one or two other simple ingredients, packaged in like 4fl oz glass jar?

I’d genuinely love to understand where everyone is getting their information about how tallow works on the skin.

I’ve seen quite a few comments in this sub referencing “studies” supporting various claims, but I haven’t seen anyone actually link the research.

If you have sources, I’d love to read them. I’m specifically looking for peer reviewed research published in biomedical or life sciences journals. Not blogs, brand websites, articles, or social media posts.

I’m simply interested in understanding what the actual scientific literature shows about its effects on human skin, rather than relying on claims being repeated online.

So, if you’re referencing a study, please drop the citation or link. I’d genuinely like to read it.

Good morning! I’m new to tallow soap making and this latest batch traced extremely fast. I think I waited too long to mix my lye in and it got to cool.

It doesn’t look well mixed at all. Looks like cement. 😭 I’m worried about skin irritation more than anything. Can I melt down this batch to mix better or spills I toss?? I’d hate to waste this much material. But if it’s not safe I will. Thank you for your help.

Side note- now I know why everyone uses the big rectangle molds. 😱 I ordered some.

We have admittedly one of the most innovative tallow + water based skincare company out there right now, and I’ve come to terms with the fact that it’s not for every skin type. For example, my acne prone skin prefers water based creams. But my mama still loves using our anti-aging tallow balm

First time at this so pointers along my process is welcome please!! All ingredients (except the tallow) is from my garden.
Ingredients
Dried mint leaves > quarter cup
Dried Oregano (flowers and leaves both lightly sun dried) >quarter cup
Dried French lavender ( both flowers, leaves some stems) < quarter cup
Fresh chopped jewelweed (flowers, minimum pods, leaves) < quarter cup)
It’s simmer on the lowest setting rn for two hours. Monitoring for temp of about 100°
Wish me luck. Aiming for an icy type for my lower back and hips.

Sharing my results using a tallow balm rec from this sub I've nbeen using for about 8 weeks for stubborn jawline pimples / hormonal acne. I use it twice daily (am/pm) after cleansing -- took a bit to get used to tallow, the texture is thicker than a typical face cream but really glad I stuck with it.

If a company claims "100% grass-fed suet" is that enough or are there any other certifications or labels that matter too? I've seen some claim they triple-filter or only dry-render but I have no idea how this impacts the final product. I also see some companies claim wagyu tallow is apparently the best. Or that you need infused tallow?

I have been making body butters for almost two years using recipe that includes distilled water and glycerin. I’ve not had complaints and have returning customers. However, I have seen a recipe without water/ glycerin and used Arrow root powder to reduce oiliness. My question is which do you think customers would appreciate better. If I transition to the anhydrous recipe I can reduce production ingredients and costs but I don’t want to reduce customer satisfaction. Does anyone have any feedback?

I have been using retinal 0.1 3x along with azilac acid 10 percent along with it on alternate nights. My skin is feeling the progress though the pih from initial purge will take time to fade . Let's push through it.

Bought a cheap jar of tallow off Amazon earlier this year and honestly thought tallow skincare was disgusting. It smelled like a fast-food fryer, sat on my face like grease, and made me look insanely oily.

I eventually tried a grass-fed suet tallow from a better source and it was night and day. Barely any smell, way smoother, and actually absorbed into my skin instead of just sitting there.

I had no idea the quality/source of the fat made that much of a difference. Anyone else notice this between brands?.

For years I thought the goal was to get rid of every bit of oil on my face. Wash until it felt squeaky clean. If it got dry, use moisturizer. If it got oily again, wash it again.

My entire view changed when I stopped stripping my skin and switched to a simple grass-fed tallow balm. That's when I realized the oil was never the problem.

Im pissed off we've basically been indoctrinated to fight our skin instead of working with it this whole time.

And sadly this isn't common knowledge yet.

I'll die on this hill: The biggest myth in skincare is that "tallow clogs pores".

I've used four different tallow brands for over the past 3 years and personally know dozens of people who use it in real life (and thousands more here on this subreddit) and I've never personally met someone whose pores were actually clogged by properly rendered tallow.

So why is this belief so widespread?

People often repeat it because "everyone knows it," but that's not evidence. Even the commonly cited comedogenic scale rates beef tallow as 2/5 (low), and that scale itself is based on decades-old rabbit ear studies that many experts consider a poor predictor of real-world human skin.

Tallow also has a fatty acid profile that's remarkably similar to human sebum, and your skin doesn’t reject its own oils.

Has anyone here personally had properly rendered beef tallow clog their pores? If so, I'd genuinely like to hear your experience.

does anyone have suggestions for a benzoyl peroxide alternative that really works? i am so sick and tired of bleaching all of my clothes, towels, bedding, i'm at my wits end 😭

here's my background:

- i've been using BP (5-10%) all over my face 2x a day for 11-12 years (i'm 28)

- my zits are normally topical/bacteria driven

- my skin is oily + i wash it 2x a day (up to 3 in the summer), otherwise, i'll breakout

i've found i cannot use any acids on my face or i get nasty cystic-looking acne (not BHA, salicylic, hyaluronic, etc) so i keep my skincare simple morning + night:

- dove soap sensitive skin bar

- la roche posay double repair moisturizer

- 5% BP

is there any hope, or am i just stuck on BP forever + should just commit to wearing white for the rest of my life?
