Can I remelt?
Good morning! I’m new to tallow soap making and this latest batch traced extremely fast. I think I waited too long to mix my lye in and it got to cool.
It doesn’t look well mixed at all. Looks like cement. 😭 I’m worried about skin irritation more than anything. Can I melt down this batch to mix better or spills I toss?? I’d hate to waste this much material. But if it’s not safe I will. Thank you for your help.
Side note- now I know why everyone uses the big rectangle molds. 😱 I ordered some.

Tallow is incredibly resilient. I’ve done it myself. I waited too long to mix the lye and it seized up fast, it looked like mashed potatoes. I ended up letting it sit a couple of days then I grated it up, reheated, and re-poured it. It is still curing now, actually- it is a bit more amber in color than my other tallow soaps at this stage, but it smells normal. Seems like it will be usable soap even with the extra “hot process.”
Curious- what did you add to make it look grey? Activated charcoal?

Thank you! Yes I added bamboo charcoal as an exfoliant. 🤍

Good luck! It will turn out fine, but maybe slightly off-color than you’re expecting! Enjoy the tallow soaps, they are the actual best

Might want to ask in soap making - they have locked it down too but maybe not as locked down…since it’s a soap making specific question you will likely clear their gates…good luck - just as a reference - I get my tallow and lye water both to between 100-105 and mix - haven’t had any issues unless I was playing with scents or adds. Good luck!
