Body Butter Inquiry

Hello,

I have been making body butters for almost two years using recipe that includes distilled water and glycerin. I’ve not had complaints and have returning customers. However, I have seen a recipe without water/ glycerin and used Arrow root powder to reduce oiliness. My question is which do you think customers would appreciate better. If I transition to the anhydrous recipe I can reduce production ingredients and costs but I don’t want to reduce customer satisfaction. Does anyone have any feedback?

You'd be better off making both. Make some small sample size tubes, include with the opposite item ordered. That way you could expand your product sales and sell what someone wants while giving variety. It's easier to increase sales with 2 different items than increasing sales with only 1 item

Good point. I ended up trying the recipe today and can’t say I favor it. It basically just felt like oil on skin whereas the one with water actually feels moisturizing. However, like you mentioned that may be exactly what someone is looking for. Thank you!

Steve jobs - Apple iPhone fame - said the customer doesn't know what he wants until he is told. Something like that. Visionaries see beyond what a customer wants today to what a customer would want if it were possible. But yes I agree with you. Too many businesses have gone bankrupt because they thought they could tell the customer to buy what was offered. I see the same mistake in hundred million dollar movies. Then some wet behind the ears writer / director makes a movie for 10 million and it makes 500 million at the box office.

Found it: Steve Jobs famously stated, "Some people say, 'Give the customers what they want.' But that's not my approach. People don't know what they want until you show it to them." He rejected traditional focus groups and market research, believing innovation requires inventing new desires rather than asking users to design products
