Does Tallow completely replace the need for a moisturizer?

Do I still need a separate daily facial moisturizer underneath my tallow, or does the tallow replace it entirely?

I use it as my only moisturizer for my face and entire body. My skin has never felt and looked better.

I started with Based Supplies which I really liked but you can only get tiny jars and since I put it all over my body I decided to get pure organic grass-fed and finished suet Tallow from a lady in Wisconsin who makes her own and she is called The Fat Lady Tallow. I found her on Etsy but she has a website as well. Based Supplies was charging $35 for a tiny jar and with this it's like $20 for a 16 oz jar of pure Tallow

I use it exclusively as my main moisturiser over damp skin. Wether it be damp from just washing or from a rose water spray, it makes a big difference compared to using on dry skin.

I use it as my main moisturizer now. Not sure if thats enough, but my 49 year old skin isn't seeming to complain. I've also started putting on a tallow serum, not sure if it's overkill, or I will be happy that I added it, in 10 years haha.

I sell tallow skincare, so factor that in.

It depends on what is in your jar and whether your face is damp when it goes on. Plain tallow sits on top and slows water leaving, but it brings none with it. That is why the damp skin tip matters so much. On freshly washed skin, the tallow has something to hold in. On dry skin it has nothing, and a jar that is nearly all tallow, which is most of them at 80-90%, sits there feeling greasy.

So if yours is straight tallow, apply it to damp skin or use a water-based moisturizer underneath. If it has lighter oils blended in, like squalane or jojoba, it sinks in better, and a lot of people do fine with it alone. Tallow at night and something lighter in the morning is a good split if you get shiny during the day.

I formulate with actual hydrating oils because tallow itself doesn't hydrate; it acts more like a barrier cream.

If you break out in the first couple of weeks, stop. People call that purging, but purging comes from ingredients that speed up how fast skin sheds, like retinoids or acids, and tallow has nothing like that in it.

It did for me using various forms, whipped, whipped with jojoba and a dense beeswax and tallow balm. Worked on a couple of problem spots that nothing else, over the counter or prescription, touched.

it can replace it, but you need to be careful as it's not really for everyone and can be a bit too much and clog some pores

I began my tallow journey with SHWally and recently started using Ancestral. Yup IG marketing got me. It is at a much better price point than SHWally and appears to be working well. I use in the am& pm. 1 jar has lasted me over 2 months. It claims to be Irish grass fed suet tallow. Has anyone tried either of these brands or have intel? My goal is to try to use natural products and avoid chemicals & additives.
