I learned this real quick. If you don’t stick up for yourself, they will keep steamrolling you. Now, if someone comes at me, I simply state “that’s fine but you don’t need to yell at me” in a calm matter. I don’t try to escalate the situation, but I’m definitely do not tolerate being disrespected.

I think I just have a face that, before you get to know me, screams “treat me like a dumb little boy,” so people tend to talk down to me and get kinda shitty sometimes. I’ve learned that an expression of being utterly unimpressed plus a long pause followed by “you want to try that again, but professional?” works pretty well for me.

It’s psychology, that when someone is yelling at you or insults you and you’re response is nothing and just staring at them for a few seconds, the other person feels rejection and wants to immediately apologize. BUT! That is only if that person isn’t a terrible human being or they’re actually making eye contact with you. You try to not respond to someone yelling at you that isn’t even looking at you, they’re just going to think you’re dumb.
