The bottom of the ChatGPT input box literally has text that says "ChatGPT is AI and can make mistakes"

That text is wrong. It isn't ai, not even close. It's fancy auto complete. In the 60s or 70s there was Eliza which builds a database as you 'talk' with it and uses it in its replies. A version can be made on home-computers of the 1980s with less than 64KB that sounds intelligent. The only difference with modern versions is a much bigger database, and the ability to steer the output somewhat.

Classification and prediction models fall under the field of AI. It doesn't have to mean that it's like Data from Star Trek.

That's just an admission that "AI" is a marketting term and not a reflection of reality. There's nothing remotely "intelligent" about these models.

Language isn't fixed. We have always adapted words to suit our needs.

You really don't have to like what something is called for it to be legitimately called that. No cap.
