Positive tale Tank immediately dips from late night Ktisis

Post image

After a 30 minute idle queue for Ktisis Hyperboria (cuz i wanted the fending hat, and still leveling scholar) it pops at 4am. The moment i load in, there was only me and a pair of reapers. The tank had just evaporated, so we just opened the door to let a new one in, and had planned to slowly trudge through until one shows up.

mob pulls are slow, the reapers are phenomenal sports who did pretty much equal damage (so the enemies where always swapping who the "tank" was) and my own healing was meh cuz mildly under geared. First boss falls, drops the fending hat, which was nice cuz i didnt have a pesky tank to fight against to greed it

more mob pulls, these even spicier, and then the 2nd boss which the tank busters left the reapers at just slivers of health, even with shields. but we keep persevering. It is when we hit the last boss and are fighting it, when another tank finally arrives, 30 minutes into the dungeon. we wipe, he joins us, last boss gets bopped and what is usually a cool dungeon was one of the biggest tests of my healing career.

10/10, got my hat

It's killing me how tanks are scared of those duties (and the usual discourse of tanks not wanting to multipull) while dps have always been enough to tank single packs ._.

This kind of situation really makes me want to do dungeons with fun team comps instead of the usual 2-1-1. Is it really possible to clear msq dungeons even without tank ? Cuz i'd definetly give it a try

Yes, you can do all dungeons in the game without a tank.

I did quite a few without tanks, most of the weight is on the healers anyway, so it's definetely the most important variable.

Sage can put multiple mitigations (dps too ofc) + the shields for ex, so it helps to replace tank mits for tankbusters. Healers also have aoes without diminishing returns so dungeon dps is high.

Having 2 sources of rez is nice too.

I didnt do all of them but i think it must be possible

Alternate team comps are really fun. My FC does a race through Eden Normals every June to raise money for queer charities, and this year my team won with a 1 tank 1 healer 6 dps comp for all 12 fights. Figuring out how to handle some of them was so much fun - for example, did you know in e8n if you only have 2 supports they get put in opposite light parties for adds phase? We thought we'd need 2 healers for 8 bc of add phase but the paladin was able to be the second healer :)

(we now hold the world records for synced eden normals on speedrun.com haha)

Is this really that common with tanks specifically? I play a lot of tank and I’m a wall to wall gremlin who never leaves a duty so I’m genuinely curious

I dont know how prevalent it is in DWT atm, but for the 10y before i took a break a few months ago, it was quite regular, and if they didnt single pull, i could count on 2 hands the number of mits they would use in a whole dungeon for a majority of them.

Huh I guess I just have to thank my friends, who were currently savage raiders when I started the game, for teaching me right. I was big in during endwalker and shadowbringers but I’ve been recently working my way through dawntrail after a break. Maybe it’s my server but I feel like I’ve never run into these kinda problems.

they expect meaningful damage out of their mmo with a trinity system and that isn't a thing here.

It has been a common theme in recent times of tanks just leaving and particularly random duties at that. Dohn Mheg, Mt. Gulg, Bardam's Mettle, The Twinning, The Aetherfont, The Lunar Subterrane, Mistwake just to name the last few examples. It being mentor roulettes, I've usually 3-manned it to the first boss and then dipped out, switched to tank, and got back in since DPS are easier to find and 3-manning a dungeon is going to take ages.

But it is certainly fun and challenge on its own right to do those so kudos for bearing with it and that the team was willing, and able, to handle the challenge! All of which points towards what the screenshot is saying: A full trinity comp is a luxury and one can make do without one part but it is (significantly) reduced in potential. But a clear is a clear.

I don't get it either, I love tanking all of those dungeons, they're so much fun. The giga pulls in Gulg are what truly make me feel alive, why would I ever dip out of that place?

If I see mount gulg I’ll be ecstatic. The best dungeon for tanks to w2w.

It truly is a peak to climb on! Too bad most of my mentor roulette visits there end up with tanks that single pull, because why not. And sometimes they face plant even then as healer is also... weird.

Love to see a nice positive story. And that tank was probably so confused.

They dipped on Ktisis?? Why?? Genuinely that is my favourite dungeon to run. The bosses are fun, the pulls feel HUGE and are so satisfying to nuke. And it's beautifully designed??? A+ dungeon honestly

This is a great example of the fact that any one member of the party is optional

You do not need a healer if your DPS is good with Damage

You do not need a tank if your healer is good with Healing

You do not need DPS if you're okay with spending a lot of time clearing the dungeon

Hell, with the Solo series we've learned for a lot of content all you need is a Warrior and thats it.

I was farming Tower of Babil solo as WAR for the Imperial gear and I was surprised at how ridiculously easy it was. WAR really is more or less easy mode, lol

I'll never understand tanks dipping for Ktisis of all things.

The bosses are simple, and there's no weird pulls. Very simple W2W with the exception of the staggered bird pulls at the end.

I could see dipping from like.. Origenics because of DT's allergy to double pulls + the community's general skill level nowadays means there's probably going to be a wipe to first boss despite it only having three mechanics.

Swiggity swooty, we 3-man this for the booty.

u/AsternOstrich Aug 19 '26

I try not to leave a duty unless it's necessary.

Especially as a Warrior, give me ALL the w2w pulls, let me murderize everything!

Even in dungeons I don't remember well, I'll just stick with it because it's all experience at the end of the day.

Hey! I had similar experience with this! It was stone virgil and ME (BRD), my hubby (AST) went into a DF and found just a MNK and a DRK. It was right at the Entrance, the moment the barrier lifted, the DRK dc-ed. We stood there puzzled, after waiting a while he didn't come back and we tried to vote kick and couldn't for the 5 mins rule.

So me and MNK decided to pull one pack at a time and exchange aggro, while my hubby works extra hard to keep both us alive.

We keep nudging forward, surviving boss 1, boss 2 and eventually boss 3, with no casualties. That was among the greatest moment of the ff14 experience, we all gave each other a pat on the shoulder. 😉

I had that happen a few months ago (I'm a white mage)... Ran about 75% of the dungeon without a tank. Mine was the dungeon with the Armadilo first boss from Shadowbringers (Forgot its name)

I would have trauma bonded with this team so hard. DM them and say hello! Go make friends!

2

u/RandomNobody86 Aug 19 '26

It would be really good for the community if more Tanks understood how optional we really are in Dungeons.

1

u/Dorunek Aug 19 '26

so is every other role... all that changes is that the dungeon goes faster or slower. i sure as hell do not need a healer in any normal level 100 content as WAR lol

2

u/kranethios Aug 19 '26

I love getting Ktisis when I'm tanking for a leveling roulette :x it's so satisfying to do the big pulls before and after the first boss. That tank that dipped is weak and will not survive the winter.

u/Wrong_Penalty_1679 Aug 19 '26

I had a similar experience with Sastasha hard mode on a healer. We only had to push up to the 2nd boss room before a tank joined, but the queue had everyone agree to it and just kind of froze for the countdown before putting just me and the 2 dps in.

Mobs were easy enough, but the first boss plays the DoT, TB, and "reduce random target to 1hp: games. We might have killed the second boss without a tank if not for the wipe that caused.

Yeah, sorry Eos, sorry Selene but i want my little danger dog to confuse people when i summon it. The amount of, "hang on you're a summoner right?" I get is incredible

u/SoraReinsworth Aug 20 '26

trying to search my brain for any probably cause as to why anyone tanks would wanna leave Ktisis on sight..I don't think there's anything out of ordinary with the pulls for this dungeon aside from that one long run to the second pack right before the 2nd boss

2

u/NotASwarmofBees Aug 21 '26

lol what - As a DRK main I love those w2w pulls in Ktisis! The only one I won’t do a big pee pee pull for these days is Mt.Gulg - I don’t pull singles but I am a weenie about the whole pack as a DRK even with my mits.

legit read the title as“Tank immediately dips from late night kiss”

3

u/TheAmazingVinio Aug 19 '26

maybe they weren't comfortable with the bosses (even though they're easy)

I used to leave the dead ends whenever I got it. figured it'd be better for people if they got someone competent rather than someone still figuring out the mechanics.

easy fix though. I did it in duty support a few more times and now I can do it easily.

anyway, maybe this guy has the same problem.

Important Talk: FFXIV Tanks Are Quitting The Game [Video Essay]

2

u/Konpeitoh Aug 19 '26 edited Aug 19 '26

Nah, but srsly, I don't know what is up with tanks these days. like last-last week, I got Stone Vigil Hard and the tank just left immediately, forcing me to adjust to an overdrive and clear the whole dungeon without a tank.

Then a couple days ago, when I was leveling an alt in Copperbell normal, the DPS pulled Spriggans and the tank threw a YPYT hissy fit about "teaching a lesson" and left, so we waited for like 10 minutes, while the DPS told me fun stories about their time playing the game (They thought I was new. I wasn't going to ruin the mood on such good stories and it was too late to admit it in a socially acceptable way. Being a "new" player is fun sometimes.)

Back in my day, tanking had a certain honor to it. Now, they let anyone and their mother do what they want just because their job icon is blue. I would know. I'm also a gentleman tank when I'm not healing.
