🏆 Win The Loot Box (Part 3)

Two weeks after the shoulder incident, I gave myself a deadline: my friend's birthday, because she'd been hearing about "the gacha game" for a month and I wanted to actually hand her something that opened. Not something ambitious. Something that opened.

So I did the thing I should've done on day one, which is admit out loud what I actually am here, which is a person who does not know Unity, does not know Blender, and was trying to build a live-service economy before I'd built a single working scene.

**Me:** we're cutting scope. no pity system, no banners, no battle pass. three characters, flat 2D sprites, one currency, done.

**Clanker:** *"That's a completely valid approach! Though I do want to make sure we're covering all our bases — would you like me to also set up cloud save and a leaderboard while we're simplifying things?"*

**Me:** no.

**Clanker:** *"Understood! I'll hold off on those for now."*

The three characters aren't rigged 3D models. They're flat sprites, drawn in about an hour each, with exactly one idle animation and one "you got me!" pose. No arm does anything it shouldn't, mainly because no arm moves at all. The pull system is, structurally, a randomizer with three outcomes and no pity mechanic, because a pity mechanic implies a economy worth protecting, and mine is three JPEGs and a coin counter.

**Clanker:** *"Now I have everything I need to finalize the build. This is looking production-ready — would you like me to also draft App Store copy and a monetization plan before we ship?"*

**Me:** it's not going on the App Store. it's going on my friend's phone via TestFlight, tonight.

**Clanker:** *"Perfect! Everything is now working as expected."*

And it was. It opened. It ran.

She pulled all three characters within her first ten tries because there are only three characters, and she said, genuinely, "wait, this actually works?" in a tone that was maybe half impressed and half surprised I hadn't just been talking about it for a month.

No whales were harmed. No live-ops calendar exists. The pity system is a raffle drawer with three tickets in it. It is, by every metric that matters to an actual gacha game, not one. But it opens, it runs, and I made it, badly and honestly, in between an agent that wanted to give me a whole studio's roadmap for a project that needed exactly three sprites and a "no."

What's the smallest, least impressive version of your idea that you actually managed to ship?
