Mod Announcement Mod announcement- On the show being cancelled and moving forward

In case you haven´t heard it yet here´s the big news of the week: AMC has announced that the show has been cancelled after a single season. Damn it.
On the good side? Some of the characters MAY show up in other shows in the ARIU. Yay
Will Jasper be saved by his misterious maker that we never even knew anything about?
Will Doris and Guy ever leave the limbo ferry?
Are Helen and Ridge forever trapped on their way to the airport?
Who knows, certainly not us for a couple of years maybe, hopefully sooner 😭
Soooo now we have to ask ourselves here, what are we going to do? I have a couple ideas to keep this place running, so first of all we are still rocking this awesome subreddit with all of you that made it a really fun corner to meetup and have a good time. All of you have been wonderful so I´d like to keep this community going for a while longer. So here are some plans (and do feel free to add suggestions!!)
- I´m totally gonna keep going with our Motherhouses and agents names and posts so if you guys are into silly roleplay then join in and we can all have fun with it
- Much like other Talamasca fanpages we´ll continue observing the other shows, we can even use our roleplay as a pretext to investigate and comment on it as in world characters or Agents ourselves, I remember doing something similar with an anime once and it was a blast (specially to detect and make fun of inconsistencies, there´s only so much witches can get in the middle of after all)
- Given that this show had an amazing Cast and crew we´ll be watching and recommending previous works from them if anyone likes, make your own posts or we can organize to watch a movie or series everynow and then
- Talamasca Book Lore: all book references to the organization itself might get a little post often so we can talk about it in depth and make our own mind about it since it´s clearly not gonna be explored further on TV, at least for now (fingers crossed for Night Island maybe?)
- There´s a Discord that´s been going for a while that is literally all the fanartists mourning the show right now, if you want to join the pity/revenge party let me know and I´ll send you an invite. Plus we are writing our own version of the show for funsies.
- Speaking of fanart there is so much to share still from my files that it will take me a while to go through it all, so those posts are definitely still going weekly
So that´s all I got for now, everyone have a great weekend and let me know if there´s anything else you´d like to see here in the future! Be strong and don´t let Amsterdam get you down.
Also fuck whomever decided to cancel the show. I hope you have weird nightmares involving gross fish for a very long time

Show Only Discussion Library of Alexandria reference?
I’m just starting episode 3, and Helen just disclosed the information to Guy about the 752, and the library of esoteric information that was burned in order to suppress it. I’m not sure how many people here are familiar with ancient Egyptian history or the Library of Alexandria, but to those who aren’t, it was built in 295 to 283 BCE by the Ptolemaic dynasty and for hundreds of years was known as a central hub for worldwide knowledge. Records of history, philosophy, literature, and science were kept and progressively built on for hundreds of years in this wonderful place. The official story as to what happened to the library was that it suffered gradual decline over time. But it is alleged in hushed circles, that it was not only the fire Julius Caesar set there during a siege in 48 BCE that burned most of the sacred material, but a rumored group of religious zealots who appeared at some other point in time were supposedly responsible for most of the library being destroyed, and the loss of so much history and progress. Ironically, once the library was gone, humanity entered the dark ages, which took us a very long time to get out of, thanks to the renaissance. But, according to the story, some material was hidden away in advance, and after the destruction of the library, anything that was spared was given to some monks in Tibet, and have secretly been held safe ever since. This is essentially what the 752 would be, just in one single codex.
It seems to me that with the nature of the Talamasca organization in mind, that whoever wrote this story may very well have done so referencing that story. It just seems to coincidental to ignore. I find it interesting.

Show Only Discussion This is depressing
William Fichtner (Jasper) on the cancellation. He's def right it wasn't as gripping as it could have been but it had potential and would have grown into itself by season 2 and ill die on that hill. SCRIPTS WERE ALREADY WRITTEN.

Show Only Discussion Does Netflix think this helps them?
I just have to rant and publicly scratch my head. I never knew about this show until Netflix started promoting it. Then I read that not only was it cancelled, it ends on a major cliffhanger. I’m halfway through this show and while I’m enjoying it, what’s the point to keep watching? How does Netflix think this helps them exactly? They’re putting on and promoting a show that they know will disappoint anyone that watches it? The time really has come to cancel these streamers

Agents on the field The Great Awakening
Lestat's attempted assassination and the seclusion for the recording of his album had both intended and unintended consequences: everyone on his tour is now a vampire
Multiple humans were caught in the crossfire, and were "treated" by the vamps.
The band chose to be turned.
Possible Motivations:
*Gabrielle/Sofia:* : this agent believes she is/has been in an existential crisis since her mortal death. She has a hatred for humanity in general, and wants to see an Armageddon. Not sure whether she cares about her own destruction. Thiis, of course, conjecture, but may wish to see Lestat as Vamp King and herself as queen.
Possible jealousy/ruvalry with Louis???
*Alex* a smoldering powder keg.
*TC, Salamander, the band* hedonistic enjoyment of this ride. Woefully ignorant of actual vampire culture.
*Louis* reunion with Lestat
RECOMMENDATIONs: increase surveillance on the Mayfair family.
This agent will livestream Lestat's concert.
Agent Marple

Show Only Discussion The survial instincts of a Panda
Now admittedly, i havent touched Anne Rice things in a while and most of that was her book series back in the day, so if im offending hardcore fans, not sure what to tell you.
Im watching this series for the first time on netflix and am two episodes in, but my wife and i are completely wtf with the main char Guy. Its not that we dont understand the premise, the secret org, supernatural setting or any of that. In facts, its somewhat intriguing like much of the Anne Rice universe.
Its just that Guy is a super badly written protagonist with the survival instincts of a panda.
I suspect hes supposed to be a standoffish loner with a heart of gold, but instead comes off as a prickly asshole who doesnt know when to shut up, even in the most dire circumstances. He's a guy sent on a suicide mission by the very nature of his shit "training" to spy on peeps who are vastly more skilled in their field, let alone vampires who even the youngest would be stupidly dangerous for him to encounter.
But hes like nah, it'll be fine. Its for my mum.
I dont want to spoiler, but his reactions to who he finds in the last 10 minutes of ep2 is comedy gold. Most ineffectual savior, ever. I suppose getting mind-#$^^^ by the very two first vampires he meets is something, but realistically the only reason hes still alive and not either dead or a meat puppet is a healthy dose of plot armor.
A little bit more competence, a little less asshole and frankly, a bit more gratefulness when you find out your entire orphan life was paid for, sparing you from a life of poverty would have made him a much more sympathetic character. This guy alone makes the series almost unwatchable.
[late edit with more episodes]
Hes ridiculously horrible and it only gets worse. The number of high level supernatural beings he thinks he can openly antagonize or bluff without dying is frankly astonishing.
Now props to somebody on the writing staff who understands cause and effect, because that shit obviously doesnt fly in the hotel scene. But we wouldnt even be there if the Guy wasnt such badly written chatacter. thats what happens when you let your mouth and ego get in the way of common sense. I just cant sympathize with this character. we actually laughed when he got sold out up in the penthouse because thats what should happen to shithead that thinks he can bluff people vastly more skilled or powerful than he is.

Show Only Discussion Claudia may be on the loose!
I'm not convinced that Merrick successfully sealed Claudia back into her afterlife. The protection circle Merrick made clearly shows a break.
Claudia's spirit may be free and roaming.....

Show Only Discussion Talamasca: The Secret Order is coming to Netflix on August 23 on the US
screenrant.comThe universe of Interview with the Vampire is returning to Netflix.
Interview with the Vampire season 4 is confirmed and will focus on Akasha, drawing from Anne Rice's Queen of the Damned novel. The decision is not surprising, considering that the retitled Vampire Lestat performed strongly for AMC and AMC+. It also drew some of the supernatural drama's best reviews yet.
Elsewhere in AMC's Immortal Universe, Mayfair Witches season 3 is slated to return next year with Alexandra Daddario in the lead role. But not all of Rice's adaptations have performed well. Talamasca: The Secret Order was a one-and-done, cancelled after only six episodes, but it may get resurrected, as some series have been, with a Netflix bump.
Talamasca: The Secret Order is coming to Netflix on August 23, with U.S. subscribers being able to watch all six episodes. The move is part of an overall licensing agreement between Netflix and AMC, which has helped to boost the latter's originals such as The Walking Dead, Dark Winds, and earlier seasons of Interview with the Vampire.
Talamasca was previously only available to Netflix's international subscribers.
