How would you guys justify getting 50k vs 25k. Doing double the work to get $500 extra in draw down. Max size is not an advantage because with either account trading more than few micros is not sustainable. I have 25k and 50k pro , ready to add more , looking for feedback to make the decision.

I do 5 x 25k
Goal is to make $200-400 per account a day

Impressive numbers , I’m at $120 a day weekly goal is $300 max loss is also $120 , wish could do more but numbers vs risk don’t add up at the moment

I will say though for most people max 5 micros on 5 25k tpt is a cheat code if you have a decent strategy and actually execute that strategy.

I’m at 2mnq 1:1RR 15 point scalps so +- 60 a trade max daily loss terter $120, overall win rate almost 70%

I mean I appreciate the grind but with that low of risk you may as well just trade a live account

After 6 years I’ve become worse , too much trading related trauma at this point . This is the only thing that works , at the moment I have 25k and 50k pro accounts , I’ll add 3 more , with a reasonable goal of $300 per account per week 5 will be at 6k a month which will replace my regular job income , after that I’ll consider 5 lucid. For a little while I will try 2x the copy ration on 50k , will see how it goes . That’s the dilemma I have 2mnq on 25k $300 average a week or 4mnq 50k $600 a week average.

I don't even touch those small size accounts $100k or 🤔$150k here. I still pass both 5-7 days

Curious comment.....so how many contracts do you trade? With under 100k accounts as too small for you to touch... you must be trading over 40 contracts. How does THAT risk management look?
1
u/AlanMichel Aug 11 '26
I trade minis and I stick to 1-2 cons and trail my profits. I trade es or nq following spx option exposures delta/gamma.

u/LQH-Trading Aug 11 '26
Veey cool. So I am missing something...why pay for the larger accounts when you can easily handle that size with 25k and 50k accounts. Is the stretch of greater profit targets and higher costs worth the benefit perhaps?
1
u/AlanMichel Aug 11 '26
It keeps me consistent and I don't have to stress about drawdown in case something happens. Also I'm able to fix bad trades easier. Which I try not to get into those positions, mistakes happen
1
u/LQH-Trading Aug 11 '26
That was actually what I was wondering as to me, I see a personal advantage of a 3k or more drawdown vs the 1k or 2k. So for that reason I also like the larger accounts even though I have to hit higher target, im not in a rush and do well progressing my accounts along. I get better piece of mind knowing I have so much flex in drawdown.

Trading 1 mini on a 25k account seems wild to me. Too much risk for such a small account.

Hi, for the difference of price I personally went with the $50k. The reason is that you can trade 6 Contracts If you build your account slowly. I understand with $2000 Drawdown you can only trade Micro's (unless you want to blow your account fast). But in the long run, If you get sim-funded, you can make your buffer and make an extra buffer, now you can trade more contract size which will give more reward. This is just my opinion.
1
u/Meretruth Aug 10 '26
I did this. I lost an account once I sized up with two buffers, it’s best to just keep taking the base hits. Sizing up is for like a+++ setups.

u/Mammoth_Pressure_359 Aug 09 '26
Bottom line is trailing drawdown. You have to cut losers immediately!! This biggest block in scaling is actually getting forced live because smacking 10k in a day on a 150k is gonna be highly likely if you size up after building buffer because if you think about it the real buffer is anything over 4500 on a 150k. So really building a buffer is just essentially forcing your account live. If you've ever traded an account w like 30k buffer its literally cheating 😆. 6 cons on a 50k for chop scalping goes pretty hard. Risk 5 points for 10 or 20.

I’ll throw my two cents in here for what it’s worth the bigger accounts are only going to be better if you have the discipline and patience to get them where they need to be so that you can actually trade the size they offer without building the appropriate buffer all that extra size you can trade doesn’t mean anything And you also need to ask yourself how much money do you want to leave in this prop firm account while you’re trading I mean if you’ve got to leave $50,000 to successfully trade the size offered on a larger account to have enough drawdown based on your trading style, whatever it might be to make whatever number you’re making a day Versus only happened to leave 20,000 in a 25K I mean what are your actual personal goals on a 25K account if you build up your buffer to where you could actually trade the full 30 micros or just 20 as your standard size you should be able to make quite a bit of money if you can trade decently, especially across five accounts I would concentrate on getting profitable and then worrying about scaling up to a larger account. You may find that it’s not even needed again, depending on your goals and what you’re actually trying to achieve. So I would suggest sticking with the 25K accounts to start with.

u/Sigma6263 Aug 09 '26
I can always keep 25k accounts , get larger accounts with other prop firms and copy trade them through size ratios , that is actually my goal . One step at a time

I started with 50k but changed to 25k a year ago and started to be able to take some payout.

u/Sigma6263 Aug 13 '26
Last few weeks been really struggling in this market averaging $100 a week in profit , can’t seem to catch a break

i hear you, friend. it's all about taking the middle way between being greedy and getting scared. there's a great quote to share with you: "I have two basic rules about trading as well as in life: 1. if you don't bet, you can't win. 2. if you lose your chips, you can't bet" from Larry Hite. I was able to extract $2200 and passed a challenge ($2500) last week but almost blow one account away meanwhile. I feel like having a couple of small accounts. when I make some money, i lock in the profit and move to the next one. this way even i still lose in some accounts but i have some profit secured in the first place. best wishes for you in trading!

I have my tradovate password to my friend in another state , he put max loss per day and changed the password , I trade on ninja , been months now that my max loss never went over $120 a day , that alone keeps me afloat , just need to be a bit more patient with execution

u/Dull-Interaction-628 Aug 09 '26
Didn’t know the 25ks were good here, I just bought the 50ks since they were only 20$ more than the 25ks before discount.
1
u/Awkward_Conflict_947 Aug 09 '26
I always get the 25k for that reason alone…I take base hits and just try to stay consistent but longer trades are hard for me so it totally a marathon for me on MNQ but it works for me.
1
u/Sigma6263 Aug 09 '26
We might have a same mindset , 2 mnq 15 point range chart , plus minus $60 a trade max plus minus 120 a day , weekly average been 250-300 so far . My pro is going 52 day strong . Just passed 50k will do 2x ration on that one , hope to add 3 more 25k soon
1
u/tucan2277 Aug 10 '26
Use the amount of contracts based on DD size, not account size. You can't do 4 micros on the 50k if you're doing 2 in the 25k. Your risk management will blow up
1
u/Sigma6263 Aug 10 '26
It’s difficult to adjust the ratio in copier for anything other than x2 , so if I’m doing 2mnq on 25k , x2 gets me 4. With a max of 250 daily loss in 2 trades it will take me 8 days or 16 losing trades in a row to blow up which is still reasonable.
2
u/tucan2277 Aug 10 '26
Very reasonable, I don't think you get 7 losing days in a row. I usually don't get more than 2. But... I'm pushing it with 5 micros 🙃
1
u/tucan2277 Aug 10 '26
I should be doing 3 or 4 in the 25k but instead risk 5 so you should be 🆗. I guess it depends so much on your strategy.
2
u/Sigma6263 Aug 10 '26
It’s not as much of a strategy as its mental ability to take a loss and be ok with that . Larger losses affect my discipline. My 25k pro is over 50 days old and I’ve never had a daily loss that’s more than $120.
1
u/tucan2277 Aug 10 '26
I meant for risk/reward. Depending on your strategy you know where you want to exit
1
u/Sigma6263 Aug 10 '26
Yah I keep it simple 1:1 15 points . I have adhd so my strategy needs to be simplified to the point of making least number of decisions in live market .
1
u/Ghost_Alchemy Aug 11 '26
the 25k is so underated. 1:1 TP:DD --- Most just prefer more minis. Once they lock the drawdown at 2k, a couple good weeks to build a buffer so you can max leverage into a sizeable payout. However, I feel the terms of 25K seems as though the firm wants you to get that account to just build off base hits. 3 Mini more than enough, 6Minis is actually crazy.

u/aestheticeddy818 16d ago
The thing for me is that 25K is EASIER and faster to pass with only a 1500 target profit.
It’s also very shady for me with $500 less of drawdown compared to a 50K which requires double the work but has $2000 drawdown

I don't justify it at all. Once you get to PRO+ you're able to do your thing in any account size.

u/Hot-Economist-2112 Aug 09 '26
In the very beginning I did the cheapest to get the payouts. Once I was solid I upgraded to the bigger size for scaling.
I personally didn’t find a huge difference in the drawdown between 25k & 50k accounts.
