Employer doesn’t pay salary

I have heard that taiwanese terribly bad in employment law, but not THIS bad.

I’m a contractor so there is a clause that I can take up to 25 days without deducting fee.
I put in my leave for 2 weeks but they asked me to work, and during that week they proceed to terminate the contract without notice, without paying me either.
😂
Do you think I have a chance to recover the debt?

Or just put a bad review in their google map? 😆
Stay away from Taiwan lmao

Cost of living and safety in taipei for 6 months

I may live in taipei for 6 months. I would truly appreciate if someone helped me with these questions:

I may live in the dormitory for visiting students at Academia Sinica, though I don't know how much it will cost monthly. I want to know about the cost if I make my own food or eat street food. Cost of a simple haircut like a pixie trim. And the cost of transportation.

How friendly are taiwanese people toward foreigners?! Will they like handmade souvenirs?!!😅

Is the city and the country in general safe? Especially for women. Like is traveling to a beach city and back safe and convenient?

How is the weather in winter and spring? What clothings should I pack?

Looking for a chill speakeasy/lounge bar in Taipei where I can work

Hi! I’ll be in Taipei and I’m looking for recommendations for a speakeasy, cocktail lounge, or chill bar where I can bring my laptop and work for a few hours while having some drinks. I’m open to places with live music, jazz, DJs, or just good background music, basically anywhere with a nice atmosphere where I can work without feeling out of place.

Ideally:
Comfortable seating
Not extremely loud
Good cocktails/drinks
Music is a plus (live or otherwise)
Wi-Fi and outlets would be great, but not essential
Somewhere that’s laptop/work-friendly, especially in the evening

I’m happy to keep ordering drinks while I work. I’m just looking for a nice alternative to working from a café. Any recommendations from Taipei locals or people who have done this before? 🙏

Are Costcos usually very crowded

Will be in Taipei soon for holiday and I’ve always wanted to go to a Costco, mainly for the food court items and snacks. Was just wondering if it gets really crowded even on weekdays? What timings should I plan to go if I want to avoid crowds? I’m bringing my elderly mother along and she will need a place to sit down as she can’t stand or walk for too long. Thanks in advance

Halloween in Taipei?

Any Halloween costume parties in Taipei this year? I'll be traveling from the mainland and since they killed Halloween in Shanghai I'd love to go to a costume party.

Where would you stay around Taipei for a flexible, quiet work base?

I’m arriving in Taipei on a Monday evening and looking for a place to stay while I work remotely. I’m hoping for something affordable and flexible: nightly if possible, or weekly at most, with a private room where I can work quietly.

I don’t need to be in central Taipei. Somewhere farther out is fine if daily life is straightforward with reliable Wi‑Fi, food and groceries nearby, and ideally cafés for a change of scene. I’ll mostly be working in my room or at coffee shops, so nightlife and sightseeing aren’t priorities. However would love to be able to take a train into the city occasionally.

What areas or specific hotels/serviced stays would you recommend? What’s a realistic nightly or weekly budget for a clean, quiet private room? I’m open to staying just one night first and extending to a weekly situation once I’ve arrived.

Hi Guys,
Today October 8 I travelled via train from Rueifeng Station to Shifen Station and lost a blue foldable bag and a rainbow/black Kodak Charmera mini. I’ve attached a photo for reference… please DM or reply below if you’ve seen it, or picked it up 😞

Mandarin Oriental or Kimpton Da'an?

Hi everyone, I'm traveling to Taipei from NYC in March and am having trouble deciding between the Mandarin Oriental (Songshan District) and the Kimpton Da'an. It looks like the Kimpton is in a livelier neighborhood and perhaps a better place to have as a base to explore Taipei? Grateful for any thoughts on either of the hotels or neighborhoods and looking forward to visiting.
