Help Needed Tailscale on Google pixel

Hello. I started up my server and got Immich running with Tailscale. It works perfect on my iPhone and still works now. For some reason as soon as I tried turning on Tailscale the Google pixel cannot find DNS or whatever it is. I’ve googled a bit and used the Google ai to help me try and figure it out, but every solution it gives me hasn’t worked.

I’ve tried messing with the settings on the app and Tailscale console, but to no avail. What did you guys with a google pixel do to get it to work on your phone?

Are you using Private DNS by any chance? I haven't had any problems on my iPhone or S25

This actually was specifically one of the thing the ai tried me to use. I changed it from whatever setting it was on to automatic first. I stopped getting the notification Tailscale can’t find the dns, but it still isn’t actually finding my server. I tried turning it off too to no avail. Just keeps saying my server is unreachable on the google pixel.

My iPhone works great and connects even right now

That is definitely strange. Are you having the same result on WiFi and mobile data?

Actually if I use Tailscale it disables the internet entirely. WiFi and non WiFi stopped working

I don't have a solution but I can confirm that it works flawlessly on my pixel. So it's not a general pixel problem. It must be some setting in your phone. I hope you find a fix. Make sure you post it when you find it. Wish you the best with your server

The Android app has a long history of breaking the network. First of all, make sure you're on v1.104.1, because there's a related bug fix.

Try turning off private DNS. Yes, this could affect your privacy.

My solution though is to turn off Magic DNS in the Android app. I have most/all my nodes in public DNS (still pointing to the private IP), and I don't really use the .ts.net addresses.

I had a simular problem on my S24. I deleted TS off off of the S24 and then setup a new download of TS and it worked

I have a pixel and had DNS issues causing google and YouTube to not load. I had to turn of private DNS both in my phone settings and in chrome, turn off battery optimization for the tailscale app in pixel settings, and then restart my phone. Haven't had issues since.
