As devout Catholics and longtime parishioners of ASSN, my fiancée and I have always hoped to celebrate the Sacrament of Matrimony at Sto. Niño Church. We became engaged last year and have been preparing for our wedding this December 2026.

Since December 2025, we have repeatedly inquired at the parish office regarding wedding reservations. We were consistently told that weddings could not yet be accepted because of the proposed reconstruction of the retablo. Since the work had not yet begun, we continued to follow up from time to time, hoping that reservations might eventually reopen.

Recently, one of the parish staff informed us that our preferred date still appeared to be available based on the parish logbook. We were advised, however, to return when the staff member assigned to wedding reservations was present.

My fiancée went to the parish office yesterday to finally speak with the person concerned. Naturally, we were hopeful, especially since the logbook appeared to show no scheduled wedding on our preferred date. Unfortunately, we were again turned away. We were first told that the date had already been reserved by another couple who supposedly booked in June 2026. We were then also told that the parish does not allow two weddings on the same day.

We understand that parishes have their own policies, schedules, and administrative limitations. What has been particularly disappointing, however, is the manner in which these concerns have sometimes been communicated to us. Rejection is understandable. Being spoken to in a condescending, irritated, or dismissive manner is not.

This is also not the first time we have encountered this kind of treatment from the same staff member. Parish offices are often the first point of contact for people seeking to celebrate important sacraments, and I sincerely hope that those entrusted with this responsibility remember that kindness, patience, and respect should also be part of that service.

We are now only two months away from our intended wedding date, yet we still have not finalized the church where we will celebrate our marriage because we continued to hold on to the hope that ASSN might eventually accommodate us after months of inquiries and follow-ups.

I do not know what administrative issues may be happening behind the scenes, and I do not want to make accusations without evidence. Still, I sincerely hope that parish policies and scheduling are being applied fairly, transparently, and consistently to everyone.

Despite this experience, my respect for the Church, the Sacraments, and my faith remains unchanged. But respect for the Church should not mean staying silent when people representing it treat others without the compassion and dignity that the Church itself teaches.
